After seeing someone post that they were listening to "Surround" by Tipper I saw a cheap copy online and grabbed it. LOVING this album right now!

Obviously ambient music like this is perfect for surround. Any other suggestions?

Just found it for $4.99 free shipping on eBay. How could I not snatch it up!

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do...and GREAT price, BTW.. Will put on my 'thinking cap' tonight and try to recommend some more ambient 5.1 titles.

Do you care what format they're in: BD~A, SACD and/or DVD~A?

Virtual Vices V and VI by Pete Namlook and Wolfram Spyra come to mind. Very similar to the Tipper album!

Also, "Surround Cuts" by Hattler.

I very warmly recommend all 3.

Not that I download [I don't at present] but here's a website which offers Ambient DTS 5.1 files for downloading: https://www.ambientblog.net/blog/the-surround-mix-versions/

At the bottom of the list the website holder does ask for an [optional] donation for use of its files.

Perhaps some posters who do download can comment on the quality of the music as well as the Sound Quality of the DTS files?

A TOP contender in my book: https://www.amazon.com/So-Many-Worl...r0&keywords=Rambient+so+many+worlds+DVD~Audio

Wildly eclectic and fully discrete, as well. Make sure you buy the Audio DVD [DualDisc] version. MLP DVD~A 5.1

I am STILL trying to figure out if Tom Waits really has something to do with Rambielt. 4 eared?

Please do not miss Diatonis! I love his stuff! Here are details and links:

Last night I listened to Rolf Enstrom - Quarks which is very reasonable on SACD:

And also Von Kessels - Requiem

Happy listening!

Not looking too good. I downloaded about 10 tracks from there. The ZIP files all seem corrupted. I tried opening them in Ubuntu and Windows (7-Zip), and I can either not open the files (Ubuntu) or extract their contents (Windows - Data Error).

If anybody has any luck, shout!

At first read of your thread I thought you mant "Ambient as in Ambience in surround" Which I do not like much in rear channel surround.

But Ambient electronic ? That's a better ball of wax !!

I recommend KLAUS Schulze-Rheingold (excellent electronic surround), B.T. any, Pete Namlook, Kraftwerk-live Min/Max, and Ash Ra Tempel any (matrix quad only I'm afraid).
That Tipper dvda is very good and great surround btw. Alan Parsons-Valid Path is excellent as well.

Is there a correlation with Tom Waits ? I only know of his Primus contribution, sure would be nice to have some more. :smokin:smokin

This one is in between New Age and Ambient (like the Robert Shaw Blu-Ray). It is not available on SACD but only as a DSD download. Should you like the music, you will find that the sound and mix are pretty spectacular.

By the by, based on this excellent DVD-A I went to see Tipper perform last fall. He was doing three nights in a row at the Fillmore in Denver, and the third night was billed as "ambient night." So I went along to check it out.

The music was great (no surround though) and the light show was excellent, but I was the only gray hair in the room who was not paid to be there. I am pretty sure I was being monitored as a possible Narc. It was a funny turn of events, but I just shrugged it off and enjoyed the music.

- Jóhann Jóhannsson - Virðulegu Forsetar (CD/DVD-A set) 5.1 and 2.0 Hi-rez
- Bass Communion - Loss (CD/DVD-A set) 5.1 and 2.0 Hi-rez
- Autechre & The Hafler Trio - ah³eo & ha³oe (ae3o3) (2DVD set, both discs 5.1 only: DD & DTS)
- David Miles Huber- Parallax Eden Bluray (HFPA) two different 2.0 mixes, two different surround mixes: 5.1 & 9.1 Auro-3D
- Schiller - Atemlos (2CD/DVD set) 5.1 DD
- Finnbogi Pétursson & Ghostigital - Radium (CD/DVD set) 4.0 DD & DTS

All between ambient, electronic chillout and noise. Some of them not so easy to find but all highly recommended for ambient seekers.

Wow, I'm pretty surprised how many titles pop up in this thread that I've never heard of before! Crazy how after, like, 7 years, I still stumble on overlooked gems. Thanks to the community, that is!

Bought the Rambient DualDisc on a whim for 1.70 CAD from an amazon marketplace seller. Hope they didn't mis-list it, and it turns out to be a CD.

One of QQ's members, Simon, has tons of ambient music (some in surround) by Pete Namlook. Would be good to connect with him. A while back he was selling off some titles under a different thread.

Crystal Method-Legion Of Boom DVDA
Teisto (various)dvd
Chemical Bros. Live dvd bluray

also I believe there's a large number of Immergent/Silverline ambient dvda's ,ie:Cell series, and many others.

I know! He used to live in Montreal, we've hung out a few times. :) Been meaning to dive a little deeper into the Pete Namlook catalogue, probably will do so when I get the chance to visit Simon in Québec City. Hehe.
