I had to start this thread....especially since we lost Atrell Cordes (Prince Be ...heart and soul of P.M. Dawn) last fu**in' year....

This, to me, is the BEST EVER Beatles cover BY FAR!!!!!...and , of course I have heard a LOT of Beatles covers, but covering the Beatles is NOT EASY....

ENJOY!!!!

RIP Prince Be!!!!

A good one indeed.

Here's a pretty little tune from my country

Hands down Jimi Hendrix!

Honorable mention to Zappa's I Am The Walrus cover on the 1988 tour.

I am rather fond of Fiona Apple's cover of "Across the Universe", which plays at the end of the movie "Pleasantville". First time I heard it was when the movie ended and there it was. Took me a while to find a CD of it, but it's on my iPod playlist.

Riki Lee Jones does a great job with "For No One" on her SACD (stereo) "It's Like This". She brings out the emotion in the lyrics much better than Paul did.

Do The Rutles count?
Well, other than that, I used to like this one - surely not the best Beatles cover ever, but still sounds pretty decent to these days IMHO:

Off the top of my head I like Stevie Wonder's version of "We Can Work It Out", Deep Purple's "Help" and The Carpenters "Ticket to Ride". Honourable mention to Deep Purple for "Exposition/We Can Work It Out".

WOW! I didn't know Trouble did a cover of that. Was it on any of their albums? I have a vinyl of Trouble from back in the 80's.....can't remember the name. I think they are a Chicago band...always liked that dude's voice....very different.

I don't know about best, but I always thought this cover of A Day In The Life is interesting.

Ever since I heard Frampton cover Norwegian Wood, I've liked it. It's a staple that he always plays live. :)

Of course this is more of a tribute than a cover - anyhow. Wonderful!!

A couple of versions stick in my mind.

Del Shannon's early version of "From Me to You" with his distinct, urgent vocals and most importantly, his gorgeous falsetto performance.

Joe Cocker tore apart "With A little Help from My Friends" in a stunning re-arrangement that is anchored by his strong, interpretative vocals. Just a great performance.

Geez - how could we forget this one? Pretty big hit here in the states back in the day. I had the vinyl with this song on it and played it to death. When I was younger, I truly thought it was an Elton song. lmao

Here's one I forgot but is great. "Hey Bulldog" from the Grammy Beatles tribute a few years ago, performed by Jeff Lynne and David Grohl. Great tune and one of their tunes that has not been played to death. Rocks! :smokin

I almost forgot "Helter Skelter" by the late great Diane Heatherington. Born and raised in Winnipeg just like the Guess Who! Her only album 1980's "Heatherington Rocks" is great from start to finish, unfortunately there has never been a CD release. This one is on my "To Do" Vinyl list.
