Dutton Epoch Classical Surround SACDs - May 2017.jpg

Dutton Epoch New Releases – May 2017
Vaughan Williams, Arthur Bliss, William Walton, Hubert Clifford, Cécile Chaminade and Maximilian Steinberg

English, Russian and French music feature in Dutton Epoch’s May 2017 release.

Vaughan Williams’s epic score for the film Scott of the Antarctic is presented in its complete form for the first time, while Lorraine McAslan and the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Martin Yates play the violin concertos of Arthur Bliss and William Walton (the Walton concerto is heard in the original 1939 version). Lighter music is represented by Hubert Clifford’s works, including The Cowes Suite, written for the 1958 BBC Light Music Festival, and suites from his film scores Left of the Line and Hunted. French pianist-composer Cécile Chaminade’s “ballet symphonique” Callirhoë (recorded complete for the first time) and the extrovert Concertstück for piano and orchestra offer some lovely Gallic contrast, while the sweeping, richly scored Violin Concerto and Fourth Symphony of Russian composer Maximilian Steinberg – once a pupil of Rimsky-Korsakov – complete this release.

These recordings have been made in both stereo and surround sound, and are issued in the Super Audio CD format, which contains both signals. SACDs are fully compatible with standard and SACD-specific players.

Thanks for the heads~up, Brian. I will definitely purchase the Ralph Vaughan Williams COMPLETE score for Scott of the Antarctic: https://www.duttonvocalion.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=CDLX7340

A gift to classical music lovers EVERYWHERE!

What a year for Cécile Chaminade! After decades upon decades of obscurity, her Konzertstuck for piano and orchestra is getting two hi-res releases, both from Dutton and Hyperion (Vol. 70 of their Romantic Piano Concertos series; CD or 24/96 download only: http://www.hyperion-records.co.uk/dc.asp?dc=D_CDA68130). Also definitely interested in the Walton/Bliss Violin Concertos disc - I don't know the Bliss Concerto but his WW1 choral work "Morning Heroes" is excellent (and available on SACD from Chandos: https://www.amazon.com/Bliss-Morning-Heroes-Hymn-Apollo/dp/B014JJBA2Y); one of the surprisingly few pieces about a war in which the composer served.

Excellent. I will continue to monitor this thread to see what I need to buy. :p

I just placed an order with AmazonUK for the Dutton Vocalion 5.0 SACD of the complete film score of Ralph Vaughan Williams' Scott of the Antarctic. Almost 80 minutes of music.

I have a feeling of déjà vu... ;)
