Yes, I didn't have DTS-HD MA selected in MakeMKV so it used the core DTS. They like to hide those things behind drop down menus. I guess that I can't complain I'm on my second free 30 day trial. I forgot about DVD Audio Extractor, I know the old version I was using didn't work on Blu-ray. These forums are great without everyone's feedback I would of missed that!!!

Thanks

I voted 9 for the Blu Ray. This poll is screwy. If you read all the posts it makes sense but if you just look at poll results are the votes for the AF or the Rhino? Yes, Morrison's face is creepy on the BD menu.
I find the BD a little on the bright side but certainly discrete and a great surround mix.

As Foraging Rhino pointed out in one of his posts, two different QUAD masters
were utilized for the Rhino BD~A and the one supplied to Audio Fidelity for the SACD QUAD.

I need to listen to the AF again, I have a feeling I might like that better. That said I must mention the two RBCD's are really good in the 3 disc Rhino set.

BTW, Mark, those singles were previously available in a very pricey Warners Japan box set: https://www.amazon.com/Singles-Box-...eywords=the+doors+the+singles+japanese+import

My understanding was the AF QUAD SACD was from the flat transfer stored in the Door's vaults and the new Rhino QUAD BD~A may have been from the EQed QUAD masters utilized for the CD~4 vinyl version.

ok, I had the quadradisc and Q8 for years as well as Perception box so didn't bother with the SACD as I thought it too pricey...this was the only one I skipped and have bought many of the other quad SACD titles. However, this Bluray had a price point impossible to ignore, so I bit.

It's wonderful, solid 10 from me, glad I saved my dosh on the SACD. These are very satisfying quad mixes IMO and terrific examples of what could be done with recordings going back to 1966!

This would make the most sense and, even though I prefer the BD over the SACD, would be why I hear an immediacy within the Midrange and particularly JM’s vocals.

Definitive results. The SACD and BDA have different mastering as shown below. This has nothing to do with sampling rate as every re-sample I've done does not change dynamic range (DR) readings.

The Doors Best Of SACD Dynamic Range - after removing the silent centre channel on the SACD (and converting to PCM):

One weird thing is that the discography on the inside cover lists all the LPs EXCEPT Absolutely Live. They even have Alive She Cried listed, but no AL. WHY?

You mean the “original album sources” list? Because it’s a list of the original album sources. Not a discography. There are no singles on this release from “Absolutely Live”

Or that’s how I read it anyway

I agree.
I noticed that as well. Wonder whatever happened to the reissue of Absolutely Live in 5.1 by Botnick . Surely it's still on his "to do" list ?:D

Dear Foraging Rhino

Please ask your Dad Dr Rhino if we could have some more great quality, excellent value releases like this one.

A similar set that included a re-release of Aretha's quad Greatest Hits on BD would be very nice.
