Ok, search here sucks, sorry if this is a repeat of a much earlier thread, but I recently acquired this:

https://www.discogs.com/Bob-Dylan-Nashville-Skyline/release/6219425

billed as "surround." Since the packaging says "SACD stereo" I thought I was ripped-off, but, actually, it SOUNDS MULTI!!! (And sounds great, much better than the generic Columbia cheapo redbook I had).

Since the cost was less than some 6-packs of craft beer I have bought, I'm good. But. . . .

Why does it sound multi? My amp-player software? Hidden multi capabilities? Why can't I find a true surround; does it exist? I searched but can't find an officially-billed "surround."

Any info appreciated! You folks know your stuff!

I can confirm it is not multi-channel. It is though, an excellent mastering job, with some nice atmospherics and sound stage.

Where was it billed as surround? Just curious.

Steve

P.s. I had quick a quick sample listen with DPL-II. It sounds quite "surroundy" in that mode. Could your rcvr be in a surround simulation mode?

Nashville Skyline was released in SQ Vinyl back in the 70's. In fact, On Audio Fidelity's recent QUAD SACD, The Collection, Lay Lady Lay is included in its original QUAD version.

Perhaps the SONY Stereo SACD inadvertently used the SQ encode as its source. I do have that SONY SACD and will play it at some point [if I can find it].

Ebay. :couch

Yes, my rcvr is in simulation mode, I think (too many variables, folks!). If it sounds multi, I'm happy!
