Also Sprach Zarathustra - Looking for an SACD with a sonically great multi-channel presentation. Ambient is fine, need not be discrete.

How does the Chandos title hold up? (A bonus for having The Planets as well)

Holst: The Planets - Richard Strauss: Also sprach Zarathustra, conducted by Edward Gardner

Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Steve

I came across this newly released [September 2017] DSD multichannel release from Pentatone. You might want to read the accompanying comments for further reference: http://hraudio.net/showmusic.php?title=12463#comments

Phenomenal sound, vigorous performance but not top notch capabilities. Certainly, not the VPO.

The Chandos is good...the forces are massive and well-trained, but it's the English Nat'l Youth Orchestra, not a professional one (mind you, the teenagers in that orchestra are close to a pro level, so it's not like a high school band). I've heard good things about the Pentatone issue as well (mostly from the same place you just looked).

Pity the Reiner is only 2-channel and not 3-channel like some of the other Living Stereo issues. Still a great one.

Agreed. The new Also Sprach Zarathustra on Pentatone has some very dramatic moments.
Worth considering.
