Very odd that they would manufacture 2 different DVDs, one with the documentary only, and one with the documentary, instrumental mix and a 5.1 mix... I'm hoping the description of the CD/DVD combo is "incomplete"...

Both scenarios are possible. I'm thinking about Muse The Resistance... There are probably other examples.

Both german descriptions say

"Synthesis (The 5.1 surround mix)"

also at evanescence shop there are three versions available

1. Standard CD Digi
2. Deluxe box CD/DVD with the 5.1 surround mix
3. Gatefold black 2 LP/CD

no other version which has only the documentary on DVD

Bullmoose is showing this release as well, only they don't have their descriptions up to date yet. But, they do have one version for about $30 so I bet that is the deluxe with the 5.1

It is up on deepdiscounts and importcds, just for a couple more options.

EB, I just checked Deep Discount and they have the LP and the 2 piece cd/dvd....NO mention of a boxset with a 5.1 remix: http://www.deepdiscount.com/synthesis/889854787622

ImportCD is showing a 3 pc set with the LP: http://www.importcds.com/synthesis/889854202514

VERY confusing.

Since it's SONY/RCA probably DTS or DD 5.1.....hope it's the former. DVD~A would be lovely but unlikely since SONY doesn't do MLP DVD~A 5.1 unless their arm is twisted [like Steve Wilson did for the ELP DVD~As]

Very enticing. I've always liked Evanescence, but their recordings, at least on CD, suffer from extreme compression. Based on the following Amy Lee comment (reference Wikipedia), I am hopeful this fresh take will sound great in 5.1.

"This is a total passion project for me. There are so many layers in our music underneath the huge drums and guitars. I've always wanted to shine a light on some of the gorgeous David Campbell arrangements and programming elements in our songs, and that idea snowballed into completely re-doing them with full orchestra, not just strings, elaborate programming and experimentation"
