Greetings all.
Despite being a member here for a while, I’ve hardly ever posted, but now feel the need to!
I have a fair collection of disc-based multichannel music, but I have never downloaded any, and feel that I’m missing out. A wee while ago, I started looking into how to do it, but got confused, frustrated, and eventually put it off to another time.
I attempted to learn about it again tonight, but am still none the wiser.
Things that I read and think sound simple enough, turn out to be confusing. For instance, I read tonight that Oppo (last August) released a free “dvd sampler”, and all I had to do was go to nativedsd.com/oppo, make my format selection, then start the download. However, I couldn’t find any info on how to actually DO that. Is there some way of doing that from the Oppo? I don’t see any actual browser in the Oppo menu, only YouTube, Netflix, Rhapsody and some other apps. So do I have to (figure out how to) download the samples onto a computer then somehow transfer them to the Oppo?
With regards to downloading hi-res multichannel music in general, I presume that I have to use my MacBook then connect this to my amp? Or to the Oppo?
I’m sorry if I sound clueless, but I find this kind of technical stuff pretty challenging, and would appreciate any straightforward advice. Thank in advance.

Hey polmac,

I was in the same boat about a year ago! It’s not as scary as it seems. What you’re missing is to use DLNA from your computer, files saved on a HD and then to your receiver. Once you have that you need to download either Jriver or foobar, and that can control everything from your computer.

There are many peeps who can advise more but if you have an Oppo you’re on the right tracks...

Hey my man - as far as I know, you cannot use the OPPO as a means of downloading music files. I don't have a MAC, but you can certainly use the MAC to download FLAC files from any music site.

That said, something tells me that MAC does not have a USB port. If it did, you could copy the newly downloaded FLAC files onto the USB memory stick.....then place the USB stick into your OPPO and play from there.

I have a windows 10 based PC and things are very simple using that. Maybe I can comment more once you see my post.

You can't use an Oppo to download Multichannel (or Stereo) Music.
You will need a PC or Mac for that.

But you can use the Oppo 103, 105, 203 & 205 disc players to play Multichannel Music Files (Multichannel FLAC & Multichannel DSD 64)

Very handy!

I cannot download the Oppo sampler either. Actually any selection i make I am unable to select quality and channels. Not sure what is going on.

More general on downloading multichannel music. One of our members, Jan, has a website with mch files, https://surroundmusic.one/
Also there is this topic, https://www.quadraphonicquad.com/fo...-1-surround-music-releases&highlight=bandcamp with 5.1 music on bandcamp. Not all file based though.

In your setup with a Oppo 103D, you have several option to access your mch (and stereo) files.

1. Put them on a USB device and connect to one of the USB in ports. With the Oppo Media Control app you can browse the USB device and play back the files.
2. Put them on a NAS/audio pc and access using ethernet (as pointed out by Mt Smithers as well). Again the Media Control app should work
3. Put them on a NAS/audio pc and connect using HDMI. Now you can use Jriver for example and have the HDMI connection as output zone into the Oppo.

Don't feel clueless, we have all been through this stage :) and succeeded ;)

Works fine for me but I didn't download it because (1) it seems no longer to be free and (2) I already have all the stuff on the sampler that I care for.

Another site with free stuff is: http://www.2l.no/hires/index.html

I've found that things I bookmark in my Favorites in Edge, keep disappearing at random! I had thought it was Norton, but I can't find them in the quarantined list.

To me, Edge seems amazingly unstable. I honestly hate it...
Microsoft really pushes it as if it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. It's not.

Thanks bmoura!

Just downloading now - free with that code in the coupon box using safari/mac. Previews sound great!

Love nativedsd, really well run imo...

also don't forget to search YOUTUBE for helpful videos on anything. It's amazing what's out there about things that you may want to know about in everyday life, and beyond.

Thanks for posting the links. I took the plunge as I hadn't been able to find out much about the Oppo 203's file playback from the user manual, and I'd been reluctant to purchase any DSD downloads as a result.

So the Oppo 203 plays the DSD64 & DSD128 Stereo & Surround .dsf files direct from my NAS Drive with no issues (using 1G Wired Ethernet).

Edit: It can't play DSD256 2.0 or 5.1

The Bill Evans – Bauble, Bangles, and Beads recording from June 1968 sounds amazing. NativeDSD also gave a free Chopin piece in 2.0 & 5.1, really good.

Microsoft really pushes it as if it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. It's not.

MS had to include IE 11 with Win 10 install because they couldn't fix the issues with Edge prior to launch.
I haven't used IE since Google appeared many years ago.

I personally don't know anyone who uses it.
