A sad DAY in the Music world !
EMI has missed the boat and we loose!

What could have been "THE EPIC RELEASE" on DVD-A, With all the offerings of said format and compatibility with video dvd players, Audio dvd players dolby digital d.t.s. M.L.P. Lossles High Res.96k/24 bit Surround, 192k/24 bit stereo, and ability to have graphics and video footage, a land mark 30th Anniversary will not be the Well deserved, Release worth waitinfg for .. but a mear, dare I say..Re-mixed rip off, in a format not worthy of such an Outstanding Release !. Don't get me wrong . I don't dislike SACD SACD M/C, and have nothing against it. I feel it should have been on DVD-A because of it's Potential, and offerings to the consumer!
I AM SO ticked! How could they not SEE the POTENTIAL.. THEN again ...you see ... WE DON"T MATTER!
Bitter you might say! Your RIGHT! If I had been in charge of this it would have been a release that all would try to match.. Alan Parsons would have been behind the boards, and it would have included video, background info, photos , new and old. And anything else befitting an Epic release of this proportion! Yea, I'm bitter and so should every one else, It would have been the One disc more people would have bought, a collectors Item so to say.. I'm not saying it won't sell. It WILL SELL, it just won't have the gutts it should well deserve. This WIIL be MY LAST COMMENTS ON THIS TOPIC

SHAME ON THEM!

I wonder if Sony will marketing this the same why as the Stones' releases and downplay any mention of SACD compatibitlity on the packaging. Then they can then come back and say, "2 million copies of this SACD have sold already!" when in fact few of those people who bought it understand what SACD is, much less have a player.

This is such a shame that PF took Sony's bribe and didn't consider the tastes of loyal fans, many of whom may have liked the original quad recording as well as the new 5.1, both of which could be put on a DVD-A.

Rob

P.S. Anyone know where this loyal fan can get a copy of the DTS CD quad mix? <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":\">

Sony is to SACD as Circuit City "was" to DIVX. If Circuit City was convinced DIVX was such a great format why did they have to pay studios to release material on DIVX. Same for SACD. If it is so wonderful why does Sony have to "bribe" people to release material? Whay did they have to fund it? If SACD were the best in the land it should be able to stand on its own. Kind of like what DVD-A is doing. This certainly will not convince to even spend $50 on an SACD player just for this or any other title. It will be so nice when the politics are out of this battle, oh wait, Sony is behind it, never mind.

Well, I for one would rather see it on DVD-A, and I do not like the fact that SONY put its muscle behind the SACD release, but you know what? Bottom line is that it is coming out, and it will sell, and it will sell SURROUND SOUND SYSTEMS, and it will begat "Wish You Were Here" and "The Wall" and other titles we have wished for many years to come out in "quad".

In a few years, all but the cheapest DVD players will play both formats, and although the DVD-A has many great extra features with it, the main reason for both formats existence is the music.

And, in this case, we have the great Alan Parsons mix to listen to thanks to Cai and Tab and lennonfan and anyone else who actually got and converted the UK Q8.

So, let's not forget the big picture here.

It comes out in mulitchannel - - - WE WIN!!

THANKS JON !
I don't know why I couldn't get that to post ?
I couldn't even get spell checker to work either but if I just posted a quickie it worked!
I Know I went over board at the time CLAIMING ( got to laugh now !):rollin: CENSORSHIP, and all the rambling I did about 1st amendment rights and all , but you got to remember I was on a a roll and ticked that it wouldn't post!
It's not to often that a subject gets my Brain in a rant like that but this and the problem of it not posting FIRED ME UP!:rollin: Brought back the old -Younger days as a rebellious youth!
I agree that the music is important! And Maybe By Some pestering of EMI it could get released in DVD-A , But not getting into it !

Enough said !
Rob (COOLED OFF VERSION 47.4)

The DIVX analogy doesn't really work here. DIVX was a redefined business model that required special backing and collapsed under the collective disinterest (and distrust) of the marketplace. Circuit City literally burned a ton of money on that mess.

The landscape has changed considerably in the entertainment business, bringing with it new realities. Hardware companies (Sony for one) own pieces or control the software (CBS records for one) which drives sales of it's equipment. Playstation anyone? Sony funding SACD is no more unusual than Toshiba funding and pushing DVD even before we had a chance to even see one play. That's life these days.

Look at recordable DVD formats for PC and it's exactly the same thing. Technical specs aside, royalty payments are a large factor in these moves to thwart paying someone license monies. So Sony, HP and whomever else comes up with a better idea that's just different enough to sidestep patents.

Well, the *new* 5.1 mix is coming in SACD format.
That don't mean the original 4.0 mix may shows up in DVD-A format... i like Guhtrie's works for surround, but in that case i think Alan Parson has more than a edge for this album.

Sony can take their SACD M/C Mix by James Guthrie, It is after all James Guthrie who butcherd the Mix on In the Flesh, he is good in two channels, and not bad live but not heard a good multichannel mix yet !
The rest of us will take a DVD-A Mix done by some one who knows what to do and was arround when it was originally recorded Alan Parsons.
I would be interested to see the results of that battle.
:rollin:

It's important to remember here that James Guthrie was approved by the band to do the 5.1 remix of Dark Side of the Moon.

So the new 5.1 mix is being done with their input and approval. In that light, the mix can be viewed as the Pink Floyd mix instead of the "Sony mix".

I would not worry about the DSOTM SACD being an SACD. There will be THOUSANDS of 5.1 DTS bootleg CDs burned during the month of March, and everyone who does not have SACD will be cranking these DTS CDs and not giving a rats butt as to where or what format they came from..........

Fortunately, or unfortunately, THAT is a fact of life!
