Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony has released their recording of the Mahler: Symphony No. 1 "Titan".

Like it's predecessor, a recording of the Mahler: Symphony No. 6 (SFS Media 821936-0001-2) released in February, the new recording is available only as a Hybrid Layer Multichannel SACD on the Orchestra's SFS Media label.

Check the story on High Fidelity Review at www.highfidelityreview.co...mber=75593 for more details.

I just received this disc today. If you order direct, they will include a making of DVD. Limited edition so if interested better order quick.

I have not taken a listen yet. Probably tomorrow. I will post some impressions. Although based on the 6th, it should be very good.

So I finally got the chance to take a good listen to this disc. The Sonics are top notch. I am by no means an expert on classical music but I found myself several times just mesmorized by the music. I found it to be a much better piece than the 6th.

The bonus DVD is very interesting as well. It is more centered around the 6th than the 1st. It has both video and still sections that cover the project. Considering the price (free), I was very surprised at how interesting it is.

Now that the SF Symphony is closing its SFS Media store on July 25, 2017, might be a good time to pick up a few of their Multichannel SACDs at the 30% Off clearance sale pricing.
