Doors Box set DVD-A 5.1

Has anyone heard of the new Doors Box set that is due to come out? It will feature all the studio albums and some outtakes all mastered in 5.1. I'm a big fan of the Doors and am totally looking forward to it.

Thing that sucks though is it's going to be 150$ for only 6 discs .

"In October, Rhino will release a new box set. The box will contain two-disc sets of every studio album--a CD with new stereo mixes by Botnick as well as freshly remastered classic mixes, and a DVD with 5.1 and 96k stereo mixes of the album along with outtakes, alternate takes and video clips."

That's a whole lot better than just six album CDs, eh? ;

I wasn't aware this set would be $150 but the volume sold of prior lower priced releases probably means that is necessary. We all complain about the lack of releases, now one is priced like a niche market item so we can see if further releases can make any sense. I don't recall the list price of the Rhino Bjork 7 DualDisc set with DVD-V sides but believe it was much less than $150. I hope Rhino shows a profit on this and we see some more.

Hopefully this means DVD-A, and not a DVD with a DD 5.1 soundtrack and a "Super Saturated Stereo" 96/24 track as well. I would have rather seen it worded this way....

Hope the link works the doors manager Jeff Jampol, has stated right from the Start of this New Doors box, DVD-A and surround and not dual disc . Some nice pieces of information from him in the link

It's cool that it appears we'll actually get to see this product come to light. Hopefully, it'll be true DVD-Audio and not just Dolby Digital or DTS, etc. Did the same guy do these new surround mixes as whoever did the "L.A. Woman" DVD-A? (Bruce Botnik or something like that?)

Honestly, I'm not ready to buy a complete boxed set just yet. Well... I would make an exception if a David Bowie boxed set of 5.1 surround mixes ever were released.

I'd probably be willing to pick up an individual album, though, if they decide to later release them separately.

yes Bruce Botnick did/has done all of the mixes. This box set looks to be something special. Original stereo mixes, New stereo mixes, all new 96/24 5.1 mixes (DVD-A) except LA Woman existing mix used but i believe that there are some bounus tracks to temp those who have it already. All will come with one or two bonus tracks. and each album comes as a CD and DVD-A in the box. So double discs for all 6 studio albums in a single box.
Now that $150 price tag does it look so high ?.

Also pretty sure that you will be able to get this for less from Amazon etc.

christmas is looking good this year.

There are other rarities, but no multitracks exist, so they will not be in this box set, as the intent of this release is to be ALL-SURROUND mixes available. It is also supposed to include the "Absolutely Live" album, in surround as well.

I just rec'd an advance copy of the entire set. It's quite impressive! Alas, I didn't get the deluxe packaging, but I have all the CDs, DVD-As, liner notes, info, etc. If anyone has any Q's, shoot away.

As has been stated, hi-res DVD-A @ 96/24, folks! Each disc also includes Dolby Digital 5.1, 2.0 and DTS 5.1 options for DVD-Video players. Photo Galleries and Mobile Phone Ringtones are also included.

I've done a *very* quick browse thru the discs and the only disappointment is that the first album's surround tracks have only light ambience in the rears - not discrete at all. Not even "The End," which was a letdown after hearing the more spacious mix in Apocalypse Now. The other albums were very clearly discrete surround. I'll double check and post back if otherwise.

I wonder why? Lack of original multitracks maybe? That sucks. Some of my favourite Doors songs are on that album!

According to engineer Bruce Botnik's comments in the liner notes, the orig 4-tracks were in fact used. Perhaps b/c this album was recorded on 1/2" 4-track prompted Botnick to take a much more conservative approach...? Some songs on the other albums (recorded on 1" 8-track) also at times adhere to a front soundstage comprised of the core group's instruments with additional elements in the rears that are clearly discrete. Then there are other songs that are very obviously discrete and impressionistic from the start.
