Re: DVD-A & SACD Lookout List!
As I learned from a very knowledgable clerk today, all 'called back' inventory, once it is off the shelf and boxed in the back, is not allowed to be sold. Period. Their stock was awaiting return.
The clerk also informed me that once stock (he used old software as an example) is deemed 'called back' it is returned to the Toronto (Brampton) distribution centre... for destruction !
I had told the clerk that I was prepared to make the long drive tonight to check out the stock that was showing online... then I got the inside info and suggestions for potential other sources (which I know don't have any) so I believe his information is accurate.
At least 7 clerks at various BB's around the GTA have used the term 'called back' when I inquired, and based on what I haven't seen in the stores that used to be there, it makes sense.

Re: DVD-A & SACD Lookout List!
While I was out tonight picking up 'Peachtree Road' and 'Time Again' DVD-A, I found copies of 'Sea Change' DVD-A and Gabriel's 'So' SACD, so I thought I'd better save them from the 'cruncher' even though I have them already.
When I figure out what I want for them, I'll post them in the classifieds. It felt like I was on a rescue mission...

Re: DVD-A & SACD Lookout List!
It depends on Best Buys definition of 'destruction'.
It may just mean 'drill a hole in the corner' or destroy the UPC code and sell it all in a bulk container to a buyer. Wouldn't be surprised to see these 'destroyed' copies show on ebay or amazon market thru a bulk seller. Of course it would be hard to guess if the cd's would carry a discount (how I got luck to own kamakiriad for $10, with cut-out UPC), or if the seller was savy enough to set 'market price' (or how I would never be able to own at $80).

Re: DVD-A & SACD Lookout List!
You never know. Your music tastes may change and want to try something new, or you need some extra $$ to fund this hobby. Either way, these are good ones to have.
This is making me think: it's been a while since I was last looking in BB's in my area. There are a few 'common' titles I wouldn't mind having that I should probably pick up before they implement that strategy here in the US.

Re: DVD-A & SACD Lookout List!
I found that sometimes there're great deals, relatively speaking, on hard-to-find titles if you look overseas. For example, I found the below titles at a Hong Kong e-tailers for a lot less than what is being charged at ebay....
There were all brand-new and sealed. Just found a Sarah Brightman "Eden" SACD last week.

Re: DVD-A & SACD Lookout List!
Soundboy,
I've also found a site with some Sara Brightman SACD's from TW. I didn't have the funds at the time you spoted that one BIN on ebay (stevehoffman forum). Just struggling now with how to order.I'm hoping someone who works there reads English and can help me out before someone else snags it.

Re: DVD-A & SACD Lookout List!
This may be some inspiration for the hunters...
This morning I found Alan Parsons 'On Air' dts, Tom Cochrane & Red Rider's 'Trapeze' DVD-A and The Police 'Outlandos d'Amour' SACD sitting on a Best Buy shelf. I even got $5 off 'Outlandos' because the case has a crack.
As I learned from two separate clerks in two different stores, the Music Staff are not reorganizing 'shrinking' the CD sections of the store to revamp for all the lovely video games we demand. The refit is done by a third party company, so staff now have no idea what's on the shelves.
At one store I was asking the clerk where the HiRes discs were. He apologized for not knowing. I glanced to my left... and there they were.
So, if you call a store (at least in Canada) and they say they are gone... ask them to look at the narrow section after 'Z' in the CD section, before the Rap/Disco section. The layout seems consistant in most stores, and if the third party is working from a standard blueprint, that's were (what's left in the store anyway) should be.
That being some handy info, there's a store a bit of a drive away where I'd seen a few things a couple of months ago that a clerk said were all gone earlier this week. Wish me luck.
Oh, ya. This was on the shelf today as well... after I picked my jaw up off the floor, I did the side-to-side glance to make sure no one was looking over my shoulder.Keep huntin' gang.

Re: DVD-A & SACD Lookout List!
Geez.....there seems to be way more diamonds to be found at the Ontario Best Buys. They were very late entering the BC market so there was never a chance for the stores to accumulate an interesting inventory of titles.

Re: DVD-A & SACD Lookout List!
With Hi-Rez disappearing from Best Buys at an alarming rate I decided to take an inventory of the last BC Best Buy that still has stock.
Skipped Classical, Silverline and the expensive jazz stuff (Brubeck, Pizziarelli etc.) from Telarc.
Rather than try and figure out what people might be interested in, or what is still common, I'm listing everything.
I know many of these are still available elsewhere on-line at prices lower than BB.
Did not show BB's retail pricing because I'm not sure it that's allowed on this forum.
One copy of each unless noted (*).
If anyone is looking for any these titles, for trade purposes, let me know. Maybe we can arrange something.

Re: DVD-A & SACD Lookout List!
Hi,
To those of you who have sent me e-mails or noted an interest in specific titles, please me give another day or two to respond.
My first week back at work and very busy.
Thanks
Blair

Re: DVD-A & SACD Lookout List!
Today I drove all the way to St. Catharines BB because they were still showing stock online.
Even though the store had not been reworked to fit the video game floorplan that most stores seem to be adopting, all the HiRes inventory had been removed from the shelves and was sitting in bins to go back to the 'warehouse'... for at least 2 months.
I asked if I could have a look in the bins, and was told no (as I suspected).
Last weekend a clerk in another store actually did have a look for me in the back.
I guess I should have showed some more cleavage today.
I know there is a copy of 'The Game' there. I had it in my hand 4 months ago, but I'd already spent the milk money on discs that month.

Re: DVD-A & SACD Lookout List!
Tonight's drive paid off...
I found all pristine copies of:
'Buena Vista Social Club' DVD-A
'Sea Change' SACD
Gabriel's 'Shaking The Tree' SACD
'Alison Krauss And Union Station Live' SACD
Alison Krauss 'New Favorite' SACD
All of them look like they've never been flipped through.
When I figure out which one's I'm keeping and which ones I'm trading, I'll post them in the QQ Swap Meet.
Keep huntin' kids. They're out there.
