Just wondering, how relatively rare is this title? I haven't done an all out search for it myself, but I don't think I have ever seen it pop up on Ebay, although I'm sure it has when I haven't been looking. Is this one everyone has in their collections? :( John

Speaking for myself, never seen one other than Schwann record & tape catalog back in the day...

Well, back in the 70's I went to Elk Grove Village in Ill. where this title was supposedly made. Walked into the plant and talked to a couple of people who worked there and they didn,t remember ever seeing it. Then security came and politely escorted me to the exit. Thought I was nuts. Phil.

About a year ago, I contacted Caravansongs http://www.caravansongs.co.uk/news.htm which is Caravan's official website about this very issue. Here is my full email exchange:

"Hi,

I was wondering if "For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night" was ever released in quadraphonic form. It seems that this album was supposed to be released as a quadraphonic reel-to-reel and 8 track. None of my quad connections have ever seen this release or know of anybody who has it, but it is supposed to exist. Can you confirm if this was ever released or was it mixed in quad but subsequently shelved? The issued catalogue numbers were: London J-12710 for the quad reel-to-reel and London L-72710 for the quad 8-track.

Any information would be greatly appreciated."

"Hi

Checked with Mark. Apparently it was done in quad, but after an exhaustive search in London and UK in the relevant tape libraries, we were unable to locate the tapes at all, hence why nothing was done with it."

"Thanks for the quick reply. Too bad that the quad tapes for "Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night" cannot be found; it would have made a great reissue in surround sound! I'm still not clear on whether or not this quad mix was in fact released in limited quantities back in the seventies, or just mixed in quad but never released.

A definitive answer would be greatly appreciated for if it was never in fact released, then I can stop my search."

"mixed I believe in quad--definitely not released"

"RE: Girls Who GPITN..........QUAD

I can now stop looking.

I hope you guys find the tape one day soon. I know alot of people who would be interested in this in surround.

Cheers"

"Hi

Yep would be a good release. It happened to a few, in some cases it got as far as catalogue numbers etc being allocated."

I meant to post this before, but apparently never did. Unless the quad master is located, we will never hear this :(.

Thanks, another Holy Grail I will set aside. Mark probably should update the "official" quad discography to reflect the fact that this has not existed.
Also (Mark) I noted that one Swedish quad release is listed, I have a copy
made years ago for me by Nick Perugini of all the Swedish quads, it was provided to him by a contact in Sweden named Mats. Unfortunately, my copy was on thermal paper and has faded so badly to be almost invisible. If you want that in the interest of being a completist....Nick probably still has the original and can provide you the listings. ;) John Svensson

Man, that's too bad. I've been looking for a copy for years. Time to give up the search, I guess...

Thanks John and zabble for the update. It only took me 7 years to find this thanks to timbre4 pointing me in the right direction. I will amend the discography soon
