I couldn't find a "Not Listening to now (In Surround)" so I thought I might post here. I've never heard the quad mix of Theme from Shaft by Isaac Hayes. Any comments as to good or bad? I love the stereo album and play it quite a bit. I would love to hear a good (or bad for that matter) quad mix of the title track but especially Do Your Thing. I think that Do Your Thing is IH at his best

Shaft is one of the more rare SQ's, considering how popular the album was. Sadly, the SACD, which I also own is only 2ch. The Quad mix is pretty good. Pretty agressive mix. The wah-wah guitar at the start of the title track is mixed like the bass on the O'Jays Ship Ahoy (SACD 5.1/SQ/Q8) album. It fires from all four speakers, one at a time. Gimmicky, but way cool and probably how I'd mix it. The high end is my only complaint. It is somewhat shrill and astringent. It is not on the 2ch SACD or CD. If you dig this album, I recommend you seek it out. I've never heard the Q8's on this one. The jacket on the SQ is the stereo jacket with red SQ stickers that wrap around the spine and front cover. The other IH albums and the Staple Singers also utilize the stickers. I believe all the Stax Quads do. Joy, Tough Guys and Sahara Tahoe are also out in SQ/Q8. I have SQ's of Tahoe and Joy, as well as Q8's of Joy & Tough Guys. Tahoe is a double and has the two doors that open on the front cover. Too bad they didn't mix Black Moses for Quad.

"I'm talking 'bout Shaft. Well, we can dig it!"

I like the preceding two lines culminating in the "Shut your mouth!"

Yes it is just so cool. I remember hearing this for the first time in high school and have loved it ever since. Do your Thing is an excellent bonus to near finish off the album. I don't think there is anything on this album that I don't like. Some of the schmaltzy organ souds are beautiful.

It's such a pity that the SACD didn't include MC as that would have been a perfect disc I expect

Actually listening to Songs for Beginners today. Another one from high school and it never fails to delight me. I like Harvest too but it's unfortunate that After the Goldrush and Everybody Knows This is Nowhere never made it to multichannel. The early seventies was an excellent time for music in general even if lost many of the greats at the start of the decade. I probably like most of the other decades as well that I know music from too!
