What fun!

1. Harry Nilsson - Nilsson Schmilsson

That was my very first Quad 8, purchased the day I installed a player in my 1973 Mercury Capri. Will have to put the lime in the coconut some day and sit down with a drink and listen to that album again. I haven't heard it in 30 years or so. What a weird guy he was.

All of the votes for Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet makes me even more aware of the fact I need to get that one. I love the four PT surround discs I do own. I wish I could find it at a more attractive price not requiring import from the UK.

Chris

This is my list that seems to get played the most. They might not all have the best sound but seem to always be in my player.

Love - Beatles
Lightbulb Sun - Porcupine Tree
Songs For Beginners - Graham Nash
Black Album - Metallica
Sea Change - Beck
This Side - Nicklecreek
American Beauty - Grateful Dead
Rumour & Sigh - Richard Thompson
Modern Dance - Pere Ubu
Genius Loves Company - Ray Charles
Yoshimi Battles - Flaming Lips / Studio 150 - Paul Weller

I own only slightly more than 10, but I will put my favorites of those that I do own:

Porcupine Tree - FOABP
Dredg - El Cielo
Bjork - Vespertine (DVDA)
Porcupine Tree - Deadwing

For those of you listing Steely Dan/Gaucho, you should specify which mix -- the "original" DTS release or the subsequent Elliot Scheiner SACD. They're quite different.

Jon, you listed Billy Joel/Turnstiles. All I can say is . . . . AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Just curious, have you heard the stereo version?
Love the album, to be sure, but the quad mix?
Whew.

I haven't chimed in with my list because . . . what Neil said.

1) Haven't heard everything
2) What I have heard, haven't heard equally/completely
3) It's too damn hard.

Just so not to be a pooper I'll start with some titles I'm sure of and maybe edit as time goes by.

X) America / Homecoming
X) Pink Floyd / Dark Side of the Moon (Alan Parsons quad mix)
X) Elton John / Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
X) Graham Nash / Songs for Survivors

Sound & Vision has created their list of the top 10 surround music discs of all time (digital age, that is), and you can see that thread here.

However, how about a QQ list? If you feel so inclined, create a list of your 10 favorite surround music discs, ANY FORMAT, and list them in a reply to this thread.

In the past when I've tried threads like this, they usually peter out due to lack of participation, but how about it? If you love surround music, list your favorites - first time posters join in. You won't get belittled by your choices. Pop/Rock/Classical, just make them great SURROUND music!

PS - You don't even have to do 10 if you can only come up with a few. HINT: Use the HiRez Poll to jog your memory!

Is there a way to use the scores from the HiRez Poll for a QQ Top 10 ?

Good list. I've heard most of these - and would agree.

I'm curious about Barbra Streisand's Butterfly. Never heard that one. What songs are on it ?

Alice Cooper - Muscle Of Love (CD4 LP)
Joni Mitchell - Court & Spark (CD4 LP)
Jefferson Airplane - Volunteers (CD4 LP)
The Raiders - Indian Reservation (SQ LP)
Pink Floyd - Dark Side (Q8)
Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water (SQ LP)
Talking Heads - Fear Of Music (DVD-A)
America - Holiday (CD4 LP)
America - Homecoming (DVD-A)
Average White Band - AWB (CD4 LP)

The songs on "Butterfly" with Barbra Streisand are:

Love in the afternoon, Guava Jelly, Grandma's hands, I won't last a day without you, Jubilation, Simple man, Life on Mars, Since I don't have you, Cryin' time, Let the good times roll.

Good recording, good quad mix, excellent sound

The album was released 1974.

Mats
