ARISTA

Clive Davis, who pioneered Columbia into the "rock" era by signing acts like Donovan, BS&T, Janis Joplin, Chicago, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen (among others), was ousted from Columbia in a political back-office move. He ended up being left in charge of Columbia Pictures low profile "Bell" label. From the ashes of Bell, he renamed the label "Arista", and brought the label and it's artists into the '70s with a bang, proving that he was a major talent to deal with in the music industry.

Arista was a late entry into the quadraphonic world, with their product reaching the market in late 1975. However they made a bold move in, chosing the CD-4 system, and providing product from most of their top acts of the time. After an initial release of 9 albums and Q8 tapes, they would only release two quad titles in 1976, the Outlaws "Lady in Waiting", and Barry Manilow's "This One's for You" (which was the only Arista quad title not to appear on Q8). That was the extent of Arista's foray into quadraphonics.

Arista CD-4 LPs are highly sought out by quad collectors and on the whole sound great.

ALBUM GRAPHICS EXAMPLES
ARISTA CD-4 LPs consisted of the standard stereo album graphics surrounded
by a color coordinated border with "CD-4 QUADRAPHONIC" across the
top and a note proclaiming that this record is compatible with your stereo.

The above insert was included with ARISTA CD-4 LPs
Interesting to note is the early notion to place the "rear" speakers at the sides of the listener!

announcing that ARISTA had joined the CD-4 camp. This was fairly late in the
Quadraphonic game. They would release two additional albums
in 1976.
