Robert Van Diggele suggested this might be a better forum to try to find some stereo/5.1 mixing help. Here is the original thread:

https://www.quadraphonicquad.com/fo...1013-Surround-Mixing-help-My-own-band-s-stuff

Basically, I have multi-tracks for some of my own stuff and if anyone would like to take a crack at a surround (or improved stereo) mix, that would be killer!
I'd like to mix myself someday, but who know how the learning process will go for me...

Hi there!

I'm a professional mixing and mastering engineer and have been for more than 5 years now. I work with Steven Wilson notably.
Although I did a lot of pro-bono work in the past few years, I simply don't have the time these days! However I definitely can take a shot at one track and let you decide where you want to take it... :)

Thomas is a safe pair of hands too.
I'd chuck my hat in the ring but am dreadfully busy right now.........maybe in 2-3 months if still open?
Thomas will see you alright though.

QQ member jimfisheye just did a very nice job on the new surround remix of the Son Contrabando album (available on Bandcamp right now in Hi-Res Surround for only $5...!!!)

You could always get in touch with jimfisheye..?

Happily purchased! I hope I figure out how to play the digital surround download. What a cool idea.

When you have downloaded the desired zip files, you can unzip them. Depending on your hardware you can save the FLAC files on a USB drive, or a NAS and play from there. Alternatively you can burn a dvd-a with Cirlinca HD software. Saving the files on a NAS is my prefered way to go. Here is some more info on the release, https://www.quadraphonicquad.com/fo...ndo-debut-album-in-hi-res-surround-and-stereo

I'll definitely want to burn to disc, provided I can figure it out. But listening on my 5.1 computer is also an option (provided I figure it out). This will be an adventure!

Just a head's up to say that the remixing is under way. I have been really busy the last month, but now it should be a little calmer now so I can get on with the surroundicizing. ;)

I must say the track I'm working on is pretty great, and it should be to the liking of many of you on the forum. It's Prog and a bit Metal, just right up my alley.

I have finished a first instrumental 5.1 mix, now for the vocals!

And here it is, a free 5.1 FLAC download in 24bit/48kHz of the song Disturbing the Universe by Mike's band M.O.T.H., mixed by myself ->

It is a pretty dynamic track (DR 14), so maybe turn it up. The solo voice in the Center channel at the beginning should be at your favourite "normal" listening level.

Although the mix can be considered finished, I still think this could use a bit of tweaking, possibly at mastering. Of course, on some aspects, we are limited by the original recordings. Here the mastering is minimal, just a filtered LFE channel and a slight volume boost (with a little limiting).

All constructive comments, remarks, criticism, insults are welcome (well, maybe not insults). :D

Huh. I don't know why your system would do that. Is anyone else having this problem? I have just checked the file on my end and it plays like it should, real 5.1.

Your 5.1 FLACS have been playing fine on my computer system, and Audacity shows them to be discreete. For auditioning purposes, I really need to figure out how to play them on my main system.
