You are indeed a wise man bigbill. You took the liberty to check out the past posts (which are always chock full of release info....as I'm sure you have found), good job.

Yes I agree with your statement that this recording is a great quad demo of a live (large arena live) concert. One of the best quad live's in my collection I would have to say.

I bought this SQ QUAD CD as a QQ member recommended it and it does not disappoint.

Excellent SQ QUAD CD!! And still very much available . Japanese Live quad from Mountain, well done.

Ten Years After-A Space In Time. SQ on the remastered cd.

I spent a lot of time thinking about this one before I purchased it.The SQ matrix encode was "remixed for stereo????".What?

Impossible to remove the matrix encode! You can however screw it up, and that's what they did.SQ is intact, but somehow they did (very bizarrely I must say) perform the same mistake as was done on the discreet dvd.Mainly that "Alvin Lee's" vocals are in the REAR CHANNELS!!

As I read the CD there is no SQ mix on the CD
just the Quad mix down to Stereo
So no SQ decoder needed?

I agree with rustyandi. I think the original Quadraphonic 4 channel master tape was mixed down to stereo. If this is the case then the CD is not SQ encoded. The CD should have stated "a new stereo mix down of the original 1973 Quadraphonic edition", without the mention of "SQ"

If a SQ encoded 2 channel source was used for this CD then the SQ encoding should still be intact - SQ decoder required for Quad playback.

Ah, yes.

But that's the "kicker"! Because it does state "original 1973 SQ Quadraphonic edition"

It's a bit blurry in the photo and I apologize. That is indicated on the back cover of the cd.

Hmmm...
<<< begins to form plan for quad decoding, hopefully avoiding divorce or worse...

One little itty bitty Surround Master SQ Vinyl Unit and you're all set for everything Quad encoded : i.e. SQ and QS encoded Quad Vinyl and SQ and QS encoded Quad CD.. Except CD-4 vinyl.. if that makes sense.. :upthumb

You've got two completely different decoding options to choose from with the Surround Master gizmo..

You could do what I did and ask the Involve Techs to kindly leave the Involve mode as is for your QS encoded records (and synthesising pretty much everything else you throw at it!) and the other option in the slidey switch thingy to inject a huge dose of Quad viagra into your old SQ records.. the results with SQ records are simply staggering! :yikes

I'm listening to Burton Cummings in SQ thru it right now.. while I assemble IKEA flatpack in my new 'umble abode.. .. and when I say there's Cummings and goings in all 4 channels, in all the right places, I think you know where I'm Cummings from..

I are tiny confused by thees. Did you have your unit customized?

Yes! Well, kind of..

Involve can now present QQ members only with two unique switching options for the Surround Master.

You can choose..

Either (A)
- 1.) SQ "by the book" decoding
+ 2.) Involve/QS,

or (B)
- 1.) SQ "Vinyl" decoding
(superb decoding of old SQ records)
+ 2.) Involve/QS,

or (C)
- 1.) SQ "by the book" decoding
+ 2.) SQ "Vinyl" decoding
(with NO Involve/QS.. but then you couldn't decode QS encoded music, etc.. not entirely sure why you'd want to do this but some users may want the "by the book" SQ decoding plus the SQ decoding for vinyl, I guess..).

So, you'd go with B wiring? And you're saying this is when one orders straight from Involve?

Yes, I went for Option B -- and my wrinkles disappeared overnight and I feel like a new man! (Don't tell my husband about the feeling up the new man bit  )

Yes, as I understand it, you only get the Involve Surround Master with the SQ Vinyl decoding option at the current special price if you order thru QQ.

If you drop QQ Member "Overture" (David) https://www.quadraphonicquad.com/forums/member.php?7009-Overture
a PM with your requirements and Involve do the rest (well, apart from paying, you still have to do that.. :p )
