There's a great Free DSD sampler that contains both Stereo and Multichannel content from Native DSD Music. I'm sure most of you already know about it, but having only just found out about it myself, I thought I'd share the info for those, like me, who did not. :)

Yes, that's a good Freebie. Once you establish an account on Native DSD Music, you can download the tracks on that DSD Sampler from Just Listen in Stereo and Multichannel DSD at multiple DSD bit rates at no cost.

They also have a sampler that has a performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream performed by Ivan Fischer conducting the Budapest Festival Orchestra in DSD Stereo, up to DSD 256 using two different Analog to Digital Converters (ADCs). It's designed for listeners to evaluate the sonic characteristics of the three DSD Bit Rates - DSD 64, DSD 128, DSD 256 (if your DAC can handle these bit rates) and the two converters - the Grimm AD1 and the Merging Technologies Horus. Again, available at no cost.

Finally, the site offers a Complimentary DSD Download at checkout when you buy DSD Albums from them.
The complimentary track changes every few weeks. So watch for it at checkout. (The last time I looked it was a track from the album "Jazz at the Pawnshop").

I'm playing this for the first time, and the sound is amazing. The Mahler selection (track 5) and the String Quartet one (track 7) gave me goosebumps.

Yes, some excellent selections.

I'm also a fan of the two DSD 128 tracks from MA Recordings in the free DSD Sampler. They are recorded in DSD 128 at a very low level, so you need to crank up the volume to enjoy them.
And that can be a problem with headphones since some of the lower cost DAC + Headphone Amps really don't have the power needed for such low volume selections.

To celebrate the upcoming DSD Surround Sound release of Mahler Symphony No. 3 by the BFO - Budapest Festival Orchestra on Channel Classics, Native DSD Music has released a recording session outtake of Movement 1 of the Symphony as a Free DSD Download.

Recorded in and optimized for DSD256 Surround Sound, it's also available as a Free Download in DSD 64, DSD 128 and DXD Stereo and Surround Sound from the Just Listen section of the Native DSD Music web site.

JLBFOMahler3 - 800.jpg

"In recognition of the upcoming Channel Classics release of the Budapest Festival Orchestra Mahler Symphony No.3 recording on April 28, NativeDSD presents a session outtake of the symphony's Movement No.1 beginning passage.

This clip was separately recorded using a natural perspective minimalist five microphone ITU alignment for surround sound in DSD256, and provides a unique insight to the collaborative effort of the session recording process. The original five channel raw DSD256 recording was also converted to, and available in 5.0 Channel DSD128, DSD64, and DXD, and further mixed to stereo in the above four format bit and sample rates.

The Mahler 3 recording took place in the Budapest Bella Bartok National Concert Hall in two sessions: March 7, 2016, and March 27-29, 2016. This clip was from Take 2 of the 1st Movement, after a control room review of Take 1 with conductor Ivan Fischer, producer/recording engineer Jared Sacks, and several orchestra principles. In that audition, the tonal character of the bass drum at the movement beginning was discussed, and changes proposed for Take 2.

What’s presented is an unedited DSD256 recorded session excerpt optimized for 5.0 surround sound by microphone selection and placement. It was later converted to the other DSD bit rates, and additionally mixed to 2.0 channel for stereo delivery. It’s a backstage peek into a session recording of a major orchestra."
