Chucky/Overture: I have a question regarding how I would actually hook this up this Surround Master in my particular system. My processor accepts two sets of 5.1 inputs as well as stereo. I have an Oppo with 5.1 outputs and stereo outputs. Therefore I can use one set of 5.1 inputs on the processor for the direct 5.1 outputs from the Oppo. I can also use the second set of 5.1 inputs for the outputs from the Surround Master.

But it looks like I would need a splitter for the stereo signal if I also wish to continue utilizing DSP in the processor, specifically Logic7 and PLIIx, in lieu of the Surround Master. See my diagram below. Does this arrangement seem feasible, or am I making it too complicated?

Why not use the SPDIF digital out from the oppo and plug that into a digital input on your receiver? I also have a Zektor switch box but I use that only switching between 6 channel sources. Otherwise I use a combination of analog/digital hook ups with my Anthem AVM30. The nice thing about digital input on my unit is it allows full decode/bass/treble etc without any analog to digital conversion on the input.

There are some DVD-A & Blu-ray, that have 192/24 output, plus any SACDs, which I don't think transfer through SPDIF:unsure:

The LF and RF outputs of the SM have the rear and center content separated from the original stereo, so (I think) the commoned stereo path should come from the input of the SM not the output......I think

 indeed.

Just tested through SPDIF:
Supertramp CotC 24/96 stereo plays just fine all though down sampled to 48
Weather Report Heavy Weather stereo SACD nothing just a little hiss
Alan Parsons ToMaI 5.1 LCPM plays back in stereo at 48

So I think the Y connectors splitting off the 2 ch inputs to the SM is the way to go. No bigee & after it's done it's done. You can quote me on that.

I might have misunderstood, but I assumed AR Surround was simply looking to pass a normal stereo signal present at the input to the SM directly to its Lf & Rf outputs when it is switched off - which is how it works isn't it Chucky (you've got by- pass relays specifically for that functionality haven't you)?

Announcing the New Surround Master V2

After consulting with a wide variety of end users Involve is pleased to announce the latest version of its Surround Master product line to be shipped from end of March, 2019. We would like to thank all those who have had input into this product and we know you all enjoy it.

The Surround Master V2 has a host of new features including:

  • Individual Line Control
  • Instant switching between modes including, Involve, 4.1, 5.1, Stereo, and SQ
  • Better LED indications
  • Stylish metal case
However, the incredible sound produced through the Surround Master remains the same. Stereo in and surround sound out. The clarity, immersive sound and an incredible listening experience is second to none. Whether you are an audiophile, a sound engineer, a regular listener to music, television, games or sports the Surround Master V2 will give you the best possible listening experience.

The Involve technology within the Surround Master V2 separates sound like never before yet allows you to become immersed in the sound experience. One user describes it as “swimming in the music”. You can hear instruments clearly and distinctly where previously they have been masked. The sound is opened up to human hearing through the Surround Master V2 and whatever was recorded will be heard. It neither adds or subtracts from the recording but simply allows you to hear exactly was recorded.

The Surround Master V2 is designed to be added into your HiFi system so you do not have to change your speakers or your amplifiers which is often expensive and not something many users would want to do. You do need to switch your amplifier to pass through mode so it simply amplifies the four or five channels out from the Surround Master V2. Now every stereo input whether it be an old record or a modern movie will be heard in glorious surround sound exactly as it was recorded. Whether it be The Beatles or Game of Thrones you will hear it exactly as it was recorded.

The Surround Master V2 continues to come with the same money back guarantee we attached to the original Surround Master. Everyone at Involve Audio hopes you love this product as much as we loved engineering it for you. Please let us know what you experience with your Surround Master V2 and we will publish your reviews on our web page.

Use the code: sm2qq19 for $100USD off your order.

Note: Involve will be sending an additional $50 code, via email, for those whom have previously purchased the original Surround Master.

First product will be shipped to first adopters at the end of March, 2019.

Question.....I currently do not use my Analog pre-outs on my Denon. Would the SM2 connect directly into those? Is that the idea? Sorry for the NOOB question......I haven't been reading all the posts.

Looking at the specs why does the THD (max 1%) and low slew rate (9v per micro sec) seem no better than the first version?
Edit: The slew rate (which I consider to be quite important) is more than the previous unit. Not much. The op amps you mentioned some time ago we're very high quality I would expect better than 1% THD & better slew rate for good transient response. Is there an error in the ad copy?

Ordered. :LB With shipping comes to £417.82.

Having shipping only $20/£16.23 is great because I'll pay 2.5% Import Duty so £10.45 on the whole cost of the SM2 & shipping, and 20% VAT so £80.32 on the AUS$495, plus the tax handling fee which can be between £8-£12.50. So an extra £98.77-£103.27

……….....and now I won't be able resist buying a NUC and multi-channel ADC/DAC to digitise the results of the SM2 from my vinyl/CDs :ROFLMAO:

Ooh Duncan..what have you done to me..I sit here reading these posts, thinking I must resist , I must. Thinking how can can I utilise this little gem. Then you hit me with the NUC and DACs.. Resistance is futile...Along with you, I'll take the tax and handling pain..unless they consider opening a UK franchise..🤔

I could never live in the UK...WAY too much math😖

I'd like to do that..... if only I knew what a NUC was (yes, I googled it, but I'm not much wiser)!

You are not alone!!
Although I think Homer(Garry) is the man with the knowledge.

I was happy with just a turntable , amp and speakers all those years ago...

Now my little noggin is trying to catch up ...😁

hi Gene, do you mean your receivers' MultiCh Analogue Preouts for FL/FR/C/LFE/RL/RR/SRL/SRR etc.?

if so, you need the opposite, a spare set of MultiCh Analogue Inputs on your receiver to hook up to the MultiCh Analogue Outs on the SM.

if you're talking a 2-ch preout on your receiver to connect to the 2-ch input on the SM, maybe that could work.
