I don't know for sure but looks dodgy to me, tried to look it up for you but nothing conclusive. It appears to downmix everything to 2.0, unsure of it's playability of even basic dts cd's, does not play sacd, says it will play dvda but looks like 2.0 only. On the plus side It does have a top notch burr brown digital audio converter but I would give it a thumbs down, you can do way better, I am slightly biased though cuz to my ears alpine has mostly always sucked, kinda like sony - too little too late. but I've seen them win competitions

I don't know about this unit...but most of Alpine's business is OEM parts...those "unbranded" radios in BMWs are Alpine....and BMW isn't the only one....back in the day Alpine was an excellent product...a Japanese company that started in the late 60's...I listened to one of their factory OEMs yesterday in a Fiat...it was much better than the "optional" Beats system...which sucked big time...

ya know I guess you are right, clint, back in they day they were great, and I need to clarify , I was only talking about the head units, alpine amps and crossovers and other misc outboard equipment has always been excellent. I've been out of the game for awhile but back at the turn of the century, around the DVDA /SACD onset time , alpine head units were way behind other mfg's in function and quality.
