Here's one of those still criminally unavailable in digital form gems. Merl is a legendary organ player who knows how to make a Hammond B3 wail. Here's his best and most underrated album.

Merl Saunders Trio And Big Band - Soul Grooving (1968)

Thanks for the post @Simon A, I love all that B3 kind of music like Jimmy Smith, not familiar with Merl!

Here are two extremely groovy cats you need to check out: Richard "Groove" Holmes and Jimmy McGriff. These champs of the organ were always backed by solid rhythm sections and orchestras.

Here are some of my faves from these two:

Yes I'm well on to McGriff, but not so much Holmes;

Wow, just saw Sheryl Crow from the 5th's Colbert show perform, George Harrison's Beware Of Darkness.
This sounded awesome with just piano; and Harrison's lyrics were so eerily prescient for these times!

Watch out now, take care
Beware of falling swingers
Dropping all around you
The pain that often mingles
In your fingertips
Beware of darkness
Watch out now, take care
Beware of the thoughts that linger
Winding up inside your head
The hopelessness around you
In the dead of night
Beware of sadness
It can hit you
It can hurt you
Make you sore and what is more
That is not what you are here for
Watch out now, take care
Beware of soft shoe shufflers
Dancing down the sidewalks
As each unconscious sufferer
Wanders aimlessly
Beware of Maya
Watch out now, take care
Beware of greedy leaders
They take you where you should not go
While Weeping Atlas Cedars
They just want to grow, grow and grow
Beware of darkness

Today - Pedaling away.
Just seemed like a Jeff Beck kind of day.

As a teenager living in a small town in the mid-80's, my favourite escapist bubble gum media were Music, Movies & T.V. From the latter, I absolutely loved watching Miami Vice and Friday Night Videos. I've just found the intro for the show on YouTube and watching it after more than 36 years brought me back to those long gone days. Anybody else watched the NBC late night video show?

I have a soft spot for this 1978 underrated Reed album which has yet to be released on CD (though it is on iTunes in excellent sound). I think the album should have been titled Jerry's Angels... ;)

Some sweet tunes for riding the hills
I'd never heard this one before. They covered a couple of these songs on 801 live.

Today we have for you on the Menu a slice of Depeche Mode served with a Glam Rock glaze.

Who says these guys can't kick butts? ;)
