Looking at this Sansui, I think I am in the wrong line of work!! There was a related link for a 7001, that looks like its been left out in the rain adn hit by a car. The listing honestly says only three of the four channels work in 'aux' mode and nothing else is tested. The price? $600!!! I have one in my basement that looks mint, plays out of all four channels but the matrix decoders are messed up so you get a squealing noise whenever you switch it on. As a (small-isa) quad amp and receiver it works fine. I would not have asked half what this person is asking. Has everyone lost their minds????

QRX-9001 for $5749 USD. Highway robbery!

There are bargains to be found. Nearly 2 weeks ago I posted this:

I recently moved to the area and found that a computer store near me (Computer Specialist | Naugatuck, Connecticut | Computer World) also repairs and resells vintage audio equipment - walls full of them! I almost immediately noticed the Sansui. I'm happy with my Surround Master V2 and will eventually get one of my CD-4 demodulators working again so I have no real interest in the QRX-9001. Just thought I'd let folks here know that the receiver is available - he mentioned that he was looking for around $900.

Bigger box then... Outback that M.F.
I like big boxes.....
Me too. An SMv3 Ultra with five nice big blue VU meters. Yes, it will cost more than a little blue eyed monster, but the cool factor has value, @chucky3042 .

Also, the meters will show an excellent visual reference on what’s going on, especially with the rears compared to the fronts.

In our area there once was a big time real estate developer-J.C. Nichols- whose motto was " a customer is never happy until they feel they've paid too much". Worked for him!

I'm one
I'm one of those watchers. I got to see if it ever sells for that amount. 😁
Well, it sold. Anyone know how much? I had asked the seller if there were any service records, and he basically said no. Im about to sell a few of these, recapped wirh mods for much much less than what hes asking! That unit will surely need servicing unless it was kept in a cryogenic container for 40+ years! :) I hope the purchaser is happy because it will certainly sound better with the original box and packing materials 😂

Some people see something vintage and think its worth all the money - especially if its in nice physical condition. I dont believe that the seller even tested it, or even knows anything about audio. I see it all the time on the bay. Same goes for cartridges.

As crazy at it sounds, sometimes if you raise the price of an item that's not selling someone will bite. Crazy that some equate high price with value. I am and always will be a bargain hunter myself, and would never fall for such tactics. One would expect that most grossly overpriced items will never sell but one never knows! A fool and his money, a fool is born every minute!

It’s relisted, so it didn’t sell. Something must have happened between the time it “sold” and payment. Buyer must have reneged...

It looks like that $5700 Sansui wasn't sold after all. It's been relisted on eBay. :cautious: Someone maybe have a change of heart?

I've noticed something, too. There are a LOT of vintage quad receivers on eBay recently. Since I was looking for one and set up alerts, I've seen a lot of recent postings. I think maybe the downturn in the economy and hard times for some have forced the sales? Most aren't listed cheap either. Here are just a few (Sansui and Pioneer, where I had setup alerts)

That seems like an awful lot -- and those are only two that I get in my alerts.
