I thought I would post my preference order of my current Dutton Vocalion SACD purchase, this list probaly mostly influenced by the music more than the sonic quality. Note: all the 4.0's also have a 2.0.

1. Bachman-Turner Overdrive I & II 4.0, great music and surround.
2. Donald Byrd -Street Lady 4.0 great music and surround.
3. Mott 2.0 great music and stereo
4. Grover Washington Jr. - Soul Box 4.0 music is pretty good and great surround.
5. All The Young Dudes 2.0, music is pretty good and stereo is good.
6. The Hoople 4.0, music is pretty good and surround is pretty good.
7. Burton Cummings 4.0 music is pretty good and surround is pretty good.
8. My Own Way 2.0 music is pretty good and stereo is good.
9. Dream Of A Child 2.0 music is pretty good and stereo is good.

Thank you Dutton Vocalion, I am a big supporter so keep them coming, your effort and work is bar none.
One question I have is: Would it be a good idea instead of splitting the stereo albums between two discs, release the 3 album sets on either 3 SACD's or 1 Blu Ray. I have no idea of structure or cost, just wondering?

Markie, as far as D~V releasing on BD~A ...... forgetaboutit! The fact that they're hybrid SACDs and can be played on all CD players satisfies D~V's current base of customers. And at D~V's EXQUISITE pricing structure ...... NO COMPLAINTS here about re~programming my OPPO to play the stereo tracks on mixed QUAD/STEREO discs. If AP or MoFi released these 2 disc sets they'd be $90 and NO SURROUND!

Thank you for that, just wondering, your right, I forgot about the Hybrid part. I ripped all my SACD's and have no issues with the splitting of discs. They are all tagged and put away neatly in my NAS played by my JRiver software.

Got my discs today and I am absolutely thrilled. I have always loved Soul Box and to have it done with Mr. Dutton's care is incredible. All the discs (this recent batch and all the others) are incredible both in execution and value. To have three hi-res editions on two discs and at the price they are cannot be beat. Even my wife doesn't mind me ordering because she realizes what a great deal it is. :giggle: :ROFLMAO:

Well...I came to this game late...and have ALREADY spent a small fortune on OOP discs 🤑
I am jealous of you all who figured this out long ago 👍🏼
Yes, so did I & so am I:(.....Didn't really get into this till 2015...& then sort of by accident. Got an Oppo 103 for its blu-ray video capabilities but then discovered SACDs & then surround sound. I'd been using Yamaha AV receivers w/ DSP sound field programs since their introduction in the late 1980's ( ..had an original Yamaha dsp-1. Yes, hiss & all).
Discrete 4.0, 4.1 , 5.1 surround is unsurpassed!
& as the saying goes 'The rest is history.....'

That’s exactly what I did! A guy at Best Buy talked me into buying an Oppo a couple of years ago for the 4K picture quality, but when I was reading the manual I saw that it also played SACD’s, DVD-Audio, etc. I am actually more of a music fan than a movie fan. Once I heard a good multitrack music disc, it was all over...I have thousands of “regular” CD’s that I have no interest in any more 🙃

Get an Involve SM2 as when run in 4.0 Involve mode (or 5.1 if you want) it can breathe life into all those unloved CDs so long as your amp has multi-channel analogue inputs - that's my main use for the SM2! If no multi-channel inputs wait for Involve's new preamp to appear.
..................that's AUS$10 commission Chucky! :ROFLMAO:

ps. is my eyesight getting worse from all the Lockdown porn or is the text in those liner notes just getting smaller and smaller!!? 🧐👀

In the spirit of not cluttering the poll thread, I quote our learned friend for truth.

I always look forward to the liner notes, but this release [BTO] was especially frustrating reading for an old guy and his bifocals. 👴👓

@steelydave, if we can't get more pages added to the booklets to increase the font size, is there some way the text of your excellent work could be made available somewhere online for those of us with vision impairment?
BTW, it was well worth the effort to get them into focus, always appreciate your research and writing style. 🍁(y)

WELL, FELLAS, APPARENTLY YOU'RE TOO OLD TO ROCK 'N ROLL

Apologies to anyone having issues with the font size in the booklet in the BTO disc - I'll take ownership of that.

I'm not sure why exactly, but the liner note ran especially long (nearly 600 words longer than usual) so the two options were basically to eliminate that many words, which would've amounted to probably 3 or 4 full paragraphs of text, or reduce the font size from 7 points to 6.5 points. I took the executive decision on the smaller font size because I couldn't find a way to remove that much of the story without seriously compromising the narrative that I wanted to put across.

Unfortunately I don't think adding more pages to the booklets at the price point that D-V sells for, and because of the way the booklets are constructed, you can't just add a single page - you have to add another two double-sided (ie 4 pages worth of printing) pages.

The next time I speak to Mike, I'll see if there's a way we can get a larger-text digital version to the occularly challenged. I can't guarantee that this will be possible as there may be rights issues with the licensing label, but I'll post here if I have any update.

I'll make sure in future that we don't go below 7 point font size on any future booklets as well, even if it means leaving out any of my questionable insights. ;)

After living with this latest batch of 9 January 2021 D~V QUAD SACDS for a few weeks, I can UNEQUIVOCALLY State that, IMO, they are ALL exceptional with zero caveats. Michael J. Dutton has given us an amazing potpourri of content probably equivalent to 21 Full LPs, expertly remastered, sonically superb at a fraction of what we're used to paying for physical surround discs. And they're all fully LOSSLESS accompanied by D~V's usual impeccable quality control which as we all know should never be taken for granted as so many of our surround discs have on many occasions encountered snafus including channel inbalances, recalls necessitating replacement discs and laser rot.

And when one recalls how many hundreds of individual QUAD and Stereo LPs have been released in a short period of time by a smallish reissue company, independently operated in Watford UK, it's staggering that Mr. Dutton has the solid connections with some of the major record companies to achieve what all other reissue companies combined could never achieve......especially at D~V's amazing price points.

And for me, these treasures are investments which not only delve into the past of our musical heritage across all genres but breathe renewed life into a failed 70's QUAD launch which future generations can now enjoy as sonically pristine reissues. And in doing so, along with Audio Fidelity's valiant QUAD reissue program, has certainly inspired old and new artists alike to revisit their catalogues creating surround remixes which otherwise never would have existed!
