There is a small Warner Bros. /Atlantic Records blurb in Billboard that tends to contradict the intial unveiling of the First CD-4 Recordings in August of 73 , as indicated above .
The article states that Atlantic's first 4 Channel CD-4 recordings unveiled are from : The J Geils Band , Herbie Mann ,
Aretha Franklin , and Bette Midler .
Billboard -April 28th 1973 page 4.

Not only is this interesting as to when the first CD-4' were shown via Atlantic Records , but it's well worth noting that The J Geils Band , hadn't released their first quad album until sometime in the latter part of 1974 .
That particular CD-4 release would be "Nightmares" , the stereo release date is September 1974.
That being said this adds some credibility to the release of "Bloodshot" being mixed in quad (for CD-4) , but for whatever reason was withheld , by the label.
BTW " Bloodshot" was released in stereo in..... April 1973 !
The Same Month and Year of Atlantic Records first CD-4 Quadradiscs unveiling.

There were multiple indications such as... in Schwann Record Guide , and other quad (and CD-4) related Audio Magazines , that this Quad album was "pending" an official release date , or indicated as Coming Soon .

I'm not sure he was really pro quad in the 70's .

FWIW He was there with Visconti when Eddie Kramer mixed "DAVID LIVE" in 4 channel at Electric Lady NY .
A Billboard indication for a few weeks stated "Young Americans" was expected via the top 100 hits listings .
And one more "Stage" live recording was set up in quad for Tony Visconti with RCA bigwigs in attendance.

So something spooked him off quad recording releases in favour of Stereo only. And I'm pretty certain his contract gave him the rights to forgo any quad release , him being one of the few big money RCA ICONS .

Both Neil Young , and Van Morrison , probably had the same final decision. ( plus Ry Cooder)
:(

Hearing a contaminated CD-4 record is enough to scare anyone away. "Wham! Crash! Thud!"
