Very, very British with influences I can hear from ‘Parkliife’- era Blur, The Clash, Joy Division’s bass leanings, and others.

A lively mix. Some will love it.

A lot of vocal lines in the rears- somewhat anti-capitalistic lyrics on track: Rich -with ample use of Cowbells for percussion.

https://music.apple.com/au/album/the-overload/1579561799
Favourite tracks- ‘Land of The Blind', and 'Pour Another .

Album makes me feel like I am sitting in a pub with some Geezer sucking down Pints bemoaning aspects of iife and makng observations with his mates sittng around me chiming in- set to music.

I guess that makes it somewhat ATMOSpheric.
Great find, I was missing stuff like this!

Since my acquisition of Apple TV and an ATMOS enabled amp my appreciation for Country music has gone from 0% -> to ever increasing intervals of knowledge and enjoyment.

Country songs added to my playlist started with:

https://music.apple.com/au/album/slow-burn/1440918116?i=1440918117
Which is a song I now love- but not a mind blowing ATMOS mix.

Then exploring some more Kacey Musgraves:

https://music.apple.com/au/album/silver-lining/1440858493?i=1440858499
Since then songs added to my playlist has continued to grow, with this rap Country fusion:

Then more classic legends vintage stuff:

https://music.apple.com/au/album/oer-the-waves/404365971?i=404365984
Some recent wild mixes of vintage material too:

To an artist I gave absolutely no time/respect to at all prior:

https://music.apple.com/au/album/tu-compania/1440845375?i=1440846302
To more recent incarnations:

https://music.apple.com/au/album/cant-fool-your-own-blood/1575452770?i=1575452779
https://music.apple.com/au/album/blue-jeans/1580902692?i=1580902706
https://music.apple.com/au/album/love-is-real/1586011488?i=1586011490
The point of this?

Ask me 12 months ago that I would be listening to this genre/material/artists and enjoying it, and I wouldn't have believed it.

Which will lead me to my next post.....

This Country album dropped this week with full album release of all tracks on 27/1/21:

Frayed At Both Ends (Video Deluxe) by Aaron Lewis.

Here is my preview. First released track is :

Goodbye town:

At first minute I thought this was a pretty ho-hum Country opening, with somewhat cliched perspective on the genre, with male vocal with typical country twang. But then the instrumentation and mix grabbed me with some fabulous playing and layering of instruments, and this piqued my interest. Song grew on me once the harmonica kicked in.

2nd:

Everybody Talks to God:

Lyrics are the standout here with great storytelling and universal perspective of man and their unavoidably common link to spirituality. Country song with some deeper meaning, and frankness of opinion.

3rd

Am I the only One:

Probably a heart-string puller with it's cry for U.S. unity and the sacrifices made by forefathers and the liberties that are now afforded that are now dividing the country. Brutal honesty and frank expression of artists perspective on current day U.S relations and politics. Impressed by the raw honesty of lyrics in today's day of political correctness- with some sparse usage of expletives to underline the message. Some more fantastic playing supporting the lyrics. Artist now grabbed my attention, and I was more intently listening- which was no doubt the intent from the outset (and I have no affiliation with the US living thousands of miles away. Job done it seems.)

4th

Pull me under:

Seems to be expressing the pain of relationships and love, and the sacrifices/vulnerability that comes to truly loving someone and the honesty and personal introspection/evaluation and modification of self to make a relationship work. "I am the one that needs the help/it's all because of me/ that you hold me in my dreams..." Brilliant acoustic guitar backing this up, and sole string arrangement backing this up.. This song actually reminded me of an Eddie Vedder-esque acoustic arrangements, which I liked for the cross-over appeal, as I am really liking the pre-release Vedder material on streaming recently.

5th

Get what you Get:

Song about the personal challenge of forgiving and forgetting for those that come across as hypocrites- and the karma that eventuates. Another brutally frank expression of personal perspective- with honesty on the table. (Seems to be talking about US political relations and current internal divisions.)

Review:

Was really impressed with the mix on this album which I thought complemented the material perfectly. Looking forward to the full album release soon. Added all songs to my playlist.

A Country artist I have never heard of before now on my radar, not scared to air their view on important issues that are close to their heart. 10/10 so far for me for mix, fantastic back up musicians, and ability to grab my attention and listen intently. 👏(y)

In Australia there is a annual tradition of the nation's youths (predominantly) voting for their favourite songs: Triple J's Hottest 100.

2021 triple j's Hottest 100.

Material usually has alternative-bent, and popular for those in their University years (or College as you would say in the US). Heck, I remember listening with anticipation back in 1997- which is showing my years, but shows the durability of the tradition.

A few ATMOS gems in here that I don't think have been aired in this forum yet:

Found this one in the Dance/Electronic genre:

https://music.apple.com/au/album/love-signs/1571429669?i=1571429981
Of note the internationally famous children's act the Wiggles was voted number one for their cover of Elephant- Tame Impaler.

The anti-vaxxers will be using this as evidence that the COVID-19 vaccines are causing impending doom...

I’m not a big Country music fan; but have mainly enjoyed the Kacey Musgraves stuff (sort of a crossover artist I guess.) Mostly been pulled into other genres and unusual music due to the sparsely available titles for Rock and the anemic surround mixing for Jazz and Classical. I really have enjoyed the Electronic/Dance genre stuff, but they need a section for that on Apple Spatial Audio.

Interesting find as I saw Of Monsters and Men at a fest when they were touring this album ten summers ago.
Makes me wonder about these Apple Atmos mixes, as I hear nothing in the center and only ambience in the surrounds in 5.1. [Edit] Do hear discreteness in track 13.

Bought the gatefold double pink vinyl at the merch booth, but seldom spun it.
Should gift it to my yuppie niece who has a turntable connected to a vertical bluetooth soundbar.
Would look good in the crate.

“Would look good in a crate”
Must be a new genre I need to check out, or new yuppie tune, maybe written by Clark & Timberlake? :D

This appears to have literally just dropped here in Australia- hoping all have access.

It would make it easier if Apple just had an updated today tile in their Atmos section, rather than having to look at each genre and whether there is an updated today reference, then a deeper dive into 'Get info'. Looks like the mixer was not sure of the genre of this one as it remains blank. Is there a feedback channel for Apple? I figure we are their largest customer experience user base collectively for spatial audio, and our input would be invaluable to them.

I'm making the assumption that the mixer found it hard to classify the type of music, as the genre is left blank.

I haven't listened, so I can't throw in my two cents worth or attempt at pigeonholing. Anyone wanna have a go?

Hmmmmm. Maybe the 'Date added' is just taking the date I accessed 'Get Info"?

Anywhoo , I haven't seen this one before and it is in a tile whereby it's stating it was updated yesterday, and this is the quickest product of my detective work.

More rap, more expletives.....
