A great album with an all-star line up including Billy Preston, Ray Charles (who sings his classic "Mary Ann"), Sam Moore (of Sam And Dave fame), and James Brown Band alumni Fred Wesley and Pee Wee Ellis along with Poncho Sanchez and his band in SACD Surround Sound.

Still available from Amazon - new copies starting at $14.67 and used copies starting at $3.75

Having just heard Poncho Sanchez on the Ray Charles Monster Disc DVD tonight, this was a no-brainer. Thanks.

Thanks Brian! I didn't know about that one. Found a used (mint) on Discogs for $14 shipped. :)

Poncho Sanchez also performs on some of the other Surround Sound SACDs in the Concord Jazz Remastered Series.
Excellent Surround Sound SACDs. Recommended.

Luckily, I was able to procure ALL of the Concord Surround Jazz SACDs except ONE.........Rosemary Clooney's White Christmas*. Love ALL of them. It was a sad day, indeed, when Concord stopped producing them........probably about the time that Universal Music purchased the label.

Recommended as an overview of the Concord Surround Jazz offerings: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0001FGBD4/?tag=hraudio-20

*Addenda: Just rectified that. Found a used SACD copy in VG condition for $25. Now my collection is COMPLETE!

They are excellent. All remixed into Surround Sound SACD at Media Hyperium Studios in Southern California by a team that included producers from Concord and experts from Philips, the SACD & DSD co-inventors.
As for Concord, it wasn't purchased by Universal Music. It was purchased by a group of investors - and is held by investors as an independent label to this day.

Thanks for the clarification, Brian, as I was sure Universal had taken over the Concord reins and also for sharing the process to create these wonderful Concord Multichannel remixes. I only wish VERVE had continued their multichannel SACD release of newer jazz titles. One of my very favorites remains Gershwin's World by Herbie Hancock. Great discrete use of surrounds and a delightful album in the Hancock tradition, masterfully recorded...with guest stars Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Ron Carter, Wayne Shorter, et alia.

I'll need to check my stash; but if I need one, I wouldn't buy it from Amazon, because I'm just as likely to end up with an SACD -sans the SA 😅

I always make it a point when buying an SACD from Amazon to contact the seller after placing the order specifying: "If the item is not an SACD, as advertised, please cancel order. Thank you."

Short and sweet!
