NTUtMTYwNy5qcGVn.jpeg

NC0yMDY1LmpwZWc.jpeg

MjctNTgxNS5qcGVn.jpeg

And ? Linda ? How is it ? Im on the fence
Just finished playing the mono mixes on my Onkyo/Polk system in laundry room. Also got halfway through the 2ch tracks. I like the added dimension far better. trippy 67 & 68 sessions. Perhaps closest to Empty Sky, but trippier. I have enjoyed this more than Empty Sky album. C+ to B- range. If you're a fan, you need it.

this is gonna be long...REALLY long...those Salvation Army trips---so dangerous! ... I even got a DISCOUNT!!!
OK, here we go...I was JUST spinning this.. awesome... it seems that classical LPs are never played much... at least, here in NOLA...and it's quite a safe bet getting them for less than a buck!.. I even found some that are quite rare and expensive!!!

NS02NjQwLmpwZWc.jpeg

...I have a question regarding this one since ALL OF THE REST of the pressings are Quad even though there is no "SQ" in any of the deadwax info...maybe it's a "stealth" Quad...
Ny00NTUyLmpwZWc.jpeg

and , oh, those (look THAT up in your) Funk and Wagnalls ones...I always get them, not the BEST quality but always a fun read on those booklets!

My latest acquisition is one of the releases that got me hooked to Quad back in 1975!
My stepfather bought this on Q8 when he got the quite humble Quad Panny system that sounded GREAT to me, and I have always considered myself to have a good ear, even back then...
Of course it was basically a dream come true when the Watford Wizard released it on SACD; I had even purchased it again on Q8 a few years ago to see if anybody would do a conversion but I don't think anyone got around to it (I think!)...
I think that the mix is quite scrumptious considering it would have been done to 4 track tape so whoever did the original quad mix was pretty awesome...
So I found a minty copy online and I wanted it just to frame the COVER cause I love the TWA 707, which , unfortunately was written off in 1972 in Las Vegas after a bomb exploded right behind the cockpit and it made a HUGE hole, but fortunately there were no victims!
tell me it's not frame worthy!
IMG_1668.JPG

but, of course, my SOUND ENGINEER self took over and I ripped it in 96/24 and I was surprised to how great it sounded, especially after using the click removal feature in my IZOTOPE, it sounded practically POIFECT!!!
Sooooo, of course I ripped the Stereo layer and compared them and here are the results on Spectral analysis... I find that the DV layer is almost as good as the LP rip regarding the sound quality; I find the LP a bit more "alive" but then, I am cheating cause first pressings will always sound more alive since the tapes were NEW when they were pressed but I was amazed at how close the Stereo SACD layer sounded... and of course with a WAY LARGER s/n ratio than the LP...
Note that the high frequencies are more pronounced on the LP rip but soundwise I almost could not tell the difference...
Here is the first song on both...
Stereo LP:
Stereo LP.png

And the Stereo SACD rip with its cat/dog scramming noise at the top of the spectrum...but it would be only if you have speakers that go that high!

Stereo SACD.png

Awesome stuff!!!
My ONLY criticism is that Lil' Arthur let the percussionist run amok spoiling the tempo on this first song cause he is ALL OVER THE PLACE!!!! But I guess they were in a hurry to go have some lobster afterwards...

My latest buy is a hard to find copy of British Rocker's Thunder Best Of double Album in Green Vinyl. Decent enough nick for what I paid and has a fantastic cover of the Stones classic Gimme Shelter.

Because it came out 20 years ago, and Wilco is one of my favorite bands. (And because Amazon had what seemed like a flash sale on this extravagant, "Super Deluxe" version of the anniversary box set. I'd been planning to get one of the more modest editions.) Eight discs, and nary a surround mix among them. Showed up in a nice sturdy shipping box, though.

so... another trip to the Salvation Army to see what I could find , and another batch of basically NEW/unplayed/one spindle mark CLASSICAL records...I am sure that if this were NYC, Chicago LA or any big city these would have FLOWN off the shelves...and 99 cents each! YOWZA!!!!

First off, some Telarc Digital LPs that are basically NEW and I found out some of these were half speed mastered and I saw some of them were mastered by Stan Ricker, from MFSL fame (or infamy...).. these go for crazy prices online, and hell yeah, I am selling them!
Here we go...
Telarcs, the 1st two are SR ones:

https://www.discogs.com/release/101...in-MaazelCleveland-Orchestra-Symphony-No-Four
https://www.discogs.com/release/835...ymphony-Orchestra-And-Chorus-The-Firebird-Sui
https://www.discogs.com/release/380...olero-Pavane-Pour-Une-Infante-Défunte-Daphnis
https://www.discogs.com/release/363...-Symphony-No-9-In-E-Minor-Op-95-From-The-New-
and here is an Antal Dorati which looked horrible from the outside but it is NM!

https://www.discogs.com/release/121...mphony-Orchestra-Antal-Dorati-Conducts-Wagner
Now, a LONDON DIGITAL one...also NM, almost Mint
https://www.discogs.com/release/413...sabeth-Söderström-Symphony-No-4-Finlandia-Luo
this one was pretty rare and the LP is made in England...
https://www.discogs.com/release/705...do-In-D-Major-K485-Sonata-In-A-Major-K331-Fan
this one is a promo cut out which looked bad from the outside but it's also NM, and curiously, it had a cut out with a review of this same LP from High Fidelity Magazine from 1972..cool!
https://www.discogs.com/release/590...nna-Philharmonic-Orchestra-Romantic-Overtures
another NM with a "good" cover:
https://www.discogs.com/release/558...dy-Symphony-No-8-Unfinished-Symphony-No-41-Ju
This one has the shrink still..
https://www.discogs.com/release/503...gskyCleveland-Orchestra-Polovetsian-Dances-Ca
this one is REALLY old and it has my favorite STEREORAMA Logo...a cutout but another NM...I have gotten a few from the same person who probably passed away, (s)he used to write fractioned numbers in the top of the back cover in pencil..wonder what they were trying to figure out, this one is another one.. I usually erase those...
https://www.discogs.com/release/802...n-Till-Eulenspiegel-Death-And-Transfiguration
And this one is worth quite a bit and it's MINT!
https://www.discogs.com/release/133...apelle-Dresden-Karl-Böhm-Beethoven-Overtures-
This one still has the shrinkwrap...
https://www.discogs.com/release/514...dy-Anshel-Brusilow-Ormandy-Conducts-Strauss-E
https://www.discogs.com/release/740...London-Philharmonic-Symphony-No-5-Marche-Slav
this next one is a mystery... my pressing is not on Discogs...it's from Arabesque Recordings (label) and it also states "CAEDMON 1980" but it's a 1971 EMI recording.. the weird thing is that my pressing has "MASTERED BY (RUDY) VAN GELDER" in the deadwax so I am trying to find out if it's worth more because of this mastering...
anyway, it's THIS recording...
https://www.discogs.com/master/1815...Orchestre-De-Paris-Sinfonie-Nr-4-F-Moll-op-36
and, one more which was NOT from the Salvation Army..got this SEALED...
https://www.discogs.com/release/317...off-Royal-Philharmonic-Orchestra-Scheherazade
Let me know if any of you are interested on any of these, you will not be disappointed...

Johnny Cash "Gospel"

And that should be the last stereo disc/stream I ever buy.

Not buying many more surround disc either.

Forget streaming!!!!!!

In another thread I told the story of my favorite song back in Kindergarten being
Scan-221006-0001.jpg
Scan-221006-0002.jpg
"Don't Talk to the Lifeguard". That original version was done by Andrea Carroll. The same song was released again in 1964 this time by Diane Ray. After searching for singles and albums I came across these compilation CD's. The Andrea Carroll disc was purchased from Japan. Now I notice that there is a US version as well, same title but a whopping 24 tracks and so I will be snapping up that one as well. The mono sound quality is excellent.

The Diane Ray disc is stereo. I have to say that I prefer Andreas version of the lifeguard song to this one. The vocals seem a bit muffled across all tracks on this disc. Still nice to have both versions.

Back in the day I passed up/had no interest in the final Lighthouse album. Bob Mcbride was long gone and the album featured no hits. I recently decided to add this to my collection for completeness anyway. (Almost complete) I don't have the Live album either. This CD comes from Prog Temple and sounds great.
