Posted these on the Listening to Now Atmos streaming thread, but thought they probably deserve their own thread. I think the mixes (by Giles Martin / Steve Orchard) sound great! Not dived into all 3 yet, but a quick demo and they seem really good. Kreen-Akrore is an Atmos demo track! What do others think?

Currently available to stream. Hopefully more back catalogue albums will be mixed, along with lossless standalone releases... :)

McCartney (1970) has finally been remixed!!!! The original mix with bass and drums not centered was a little wonky, gonna give this a go when I get home!!

I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but drums & bass on "Maybe I'm Amazed" are still almost entirely panned to the front right speaker. I'd guess there were limitations given the way that first album was recorded.

McCartney II sounds great in surround though, there's lots of stuff in the rears throughout "Coming Up" and the keyboards in the rear heights during "Waterfalls" is a great touch.

Mccartney 3 is a revelation in atmos it gives the album extra dimension. I really applaud Giles here for some of his creative decisions and exciting use of the heights and rears it definitely deserves a physical release . These came out because of the release of the vinyl box of the 3 albums. What would of been nice would of been same box but with atmos blurays, even as a limited edition.

You’re absolutely right, unfortunately Giles could only work with what he had, and considering most of this album was recorded at Paul’s home on his own equipment, there probably weren’t many tracks to work with. Still, it definitely sounds good and there’s the occasional fun bit popping up in the surrounds, I especially like the spooky sound collage in “Hot as Sun / Glasses”.

Unfortunately, I cannot find McCartney and McCartney II on Tidal here in Canada. Only McCartney III. Is anyone else having the same problem?

I had asked this elsewhere here, but I want to mention again; when I listened to some of this on my APPLE TV 5.1 system, the song ‘Kreen-Akrore’ had percussion that seemed to have “into the room-object oriented presence” like I rarely if ever heard before, anyone else notice that? Whoever mixed it did a great job (y) -just a little bummed if it all never gets a physical release.

Yeah that's what I felt Pups. It's almost like you're inside the drums. 🥁 It's very clever and effective. It was done by Giles Martin with Steve Orchard. Actually I noticed a slightly similar effect on Giles's Atmos mix on Can You Hear The Music from Goats Head Soup. The flute/pipe sound and bells sort of hover over your head rather than coming from the speakers. It's slightly hypnotic and again very effective...

Thanks, could be even more of that I don’t hear, since I’m only running 5.1, the Atmos heights probably bring more vertical attitude. So that GHS hovering over my head effect might be impossible for me to obtain with only 5.1.
No room to hang ceiling speakers? ;)
