Atmos on Apple Music 🤩

I’d blame lossy vs lossless before thinking tape damage. We’ve been lucky enough to have listened to DSOTM in 96/24 surround for many years.

I reckon the BDA Atmos mix will be audibly better, same mix of course. I guess we’ll know soon…

i'm quite sure Guthrie's more than upto the job, his Johnny Mathis Christmas 5.1 mix is superb with very discrete Surround sound, it feels like outside meddling (no pun intended!) or Band interference on this one more than anything else 👍
Which is exactly why I did not call out the mixer. As a film editor, I know that we often have to make choices that we don’t like, based solely on someone else’s opinion.

One Of These Days turned out to be TODAY!
Doing a little jig around the listening room.

Listening in 7.4.1, it appears the mix on the first track is in fact 7.4.0.
No LFE content audible or visible on my meters.
A bit of bass management will be in order.
OMG, orders of magnitude better for me. YMMV.

Digging the outer space intro Track 2.

That’s an odd setup you’ve got there Dave

Here's track one, One of These Days. No use of LFE, likely because the LFE channel is discarded when played on systems without an LFE channel, so mixng engneers use it very sparingly.
