20% Off - Sonatala - Direct to DSD Recording - Album of the Week

The Harmen Fraanje Quartet was founded in the summer of 2002. Hein Van de Geyn invited the musicians to his theater where they spent an extraordinary week together.
Harmen's music found a miraculous medium in this group.

On Sonatala from Challenge Jazz, the music of this extraordinary quartet has a power and simplicity that hits the listener in a very direct way.
Within the refreshing, clear compositions breathtaking improvisation takes place. All compositions are from Harmen Fraanje, except track 11 by Nelson Veras.

As one of the most promising upcoming quartets Challenge Jazz wanted to fully support the beautiful sound of the band with the best quality format. Challenge, therefore, decided to record this album direct to DSD and release the album initially as a hybrid surround SACD only (not on Stereo CD) and later as a Multichannel DSD and a Stereo DSD Download. This week, you can pick up this fine Jazz recording in Stereo and Multichannel DSD for 20% Off with code AOTW through September 6, 2019.

And while we're talking about the Jazz music of Harmen Fraanje, don't miss his recent recording First Meeting on the Just Listen label.
Recorded in Stereo and Multichannel DSD 256, First Meeting features the Harmen Fraanje Trio with Clemens van der Feen - Double Bass (also a member of the Feenbrothers), Tristan Renfrow - Drums and special guest Fredrik Ljungkvist - Tenor Saxophone and Clarinet. First Meeting is also available in Stereo DSD 512.

First Meeting has an open characteristic with music that provides endless space for creativity. It evolved as music with no prepared plans but only full attention to the creative process. This is a way of thinking and playing that you do not often encounter in the recording process.

A Top 5 DSD Best Seller

Howard Hanson: An American Romantic is the Native DSD Music Album of the Week. The album features 8 compositions by Howard Hanson performed by the Rochester Chamber Orchestra and the Roberts Wesleyan College Choir, Meliora Quartet, Brian Preston (piano), Theodore Sipes, (baritone in Psalm 121), and Barbara Harbach (organ), conducted by Robert Shewan.

This is an Analog Recording that was transferred from Analog to DSD 256 Stereo by Bob Witak at High Definition Tape Transfers from the Albany Records catalog. The transfer was made using the Merging Technologies Hapi Analog to DSD 256 Converter.

David Robinson, Editor In Chief of Positive Feedback says "Piano lovers, take note! Hanson’s “Two Yuletide Pieces for Piano Solo” are delicious examples of Hanson’s lyrical spirituality as a composer. And it is a devilishly difficult instrument to record in anything like its full beauty. And yet High Definition Tape Transfer is a company that is making quite a name for itself in the realm of exceptional transfers of significant classical and jazz recordings from analog to high-resolution DSD.

You’ll hear a fine solo piano recording, with an impeccable artistry, showing how Quad DSD (DSD 256) is able to deliver the full dynamics and harmonic richness that we long for. The entire album is stellar and includes Hanson’s works involving chorus and chamber orchestra. A magnificent album! You owe it to yourself to purchase this one."

An American Romantic is available this week in Stereo DSD 256, DSD 128 and DSD 64 at the Native DSD Music store for 20% Off. Use offer code AOTW through September 27, 2019 to enjoy the savings. This is a DSD Exclusive, Not Available on SACD release.
