Originally released as a stereo LP in July 1973, Love Devotion Surrender was remixed and reissued on SQ matrix-encoded LP and quad 8-track in January 1974. Intended as a tribute to John Coltrane, the album peaked at #14 on the US pop charts and features contributions from both Santana and the Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Two fantastic guitarists. Fantastic discrete mix! Heavy on John Coltrane compositions. Fine, because I'm complete on him, too. Bought this on Q8, CD & 2ch SACD. Q8 is my most played copy.

Chants are the only vocals. An intense album, far from pop. A very rewarding listen for those who love this brand of jazz, Santana or McLaughlin. If you love all three, get this.

Hoping this will get a digital Quad release. Japan 7" deluxe SACD multi?

Bought the stereo vinyl on release, always a favorite since then, dubbed to cassette for the car and then again on CD.

Listened several times (bike rides) to the 360RA binaural Amazon Music rendering on airpods.
As has been noted, often vintage quads translate well to that format.
Did not sound like a fake upmix.

As it's another Columbia quad, 50th anniversary next year, Linda's wish is quite possible.
Fingers crossed.

Released 50 years ago today, still hoping for Sony Japan to come through for us.
