I had 2 different USA Q8 carts of this...from memory one had the date in Roman numerals and one with the date typed in normal digits.
It's been 18 months since I sold both on ebay,so my memory is little hazy but the carts were also different colours as well.
one sounded quite good..the other was just typical average q8 sound....
I think the later pressing with the normal date is the good sounding one...

a great lp....

a QR of this would be nice...

Hello,

Can anyone confirm what Chris is saying here? Also, what color cart has the good mix?

This is great summer music!

Color for UA carts can be vary; so far i've seen three variants:
- black shell, duplicated by Liberty
- white shell, duplicated by Liberty
- gold shell, probably duplicated by RCA - riveted cart.

For example, the double Shirley Bassey Live do esist in black and gold variants; War WIAG i've always seen it as white shell, as for Deliver the word, while all War Live are black shell.

Probably the difference is between Liberty factories and RCA factories, so the Gold cart could be better.

I always thought that the gold carts were "Canadian"???

Oh, by the way, the Q8 I have has a great surround mix. Gotta love "Cisco Kid" in surround!! :D

Hello Jon,

So what color is your cart? Does it have Roman Numerals or standard digits for the year? Could you please clue me in so I know what to look for.

Thanks

My UA gold carts doesn't show any Country and do have year in regular numbers; black or white carts does have year in roman.
Nice to know these gold carts are canadian.

Hello,

OK, I'm going to go out on a limb here a try and make an informed guess. From what I can tell, the gold cart with the regular #'s is the Q8 with the good mix. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Not sure. Mine is white with the MCMLXXII on the back. Must be an early one.

Oy Vey!

Pray tell, which one?

I think the later pressing with the normal date is the good sounding one...

but after 2 years I'm not 100% sure..
all I know is that I transferred the decent sounding one to Hi8 multitrack digital on my DA88 before I sold both of them on ebay....
one day (when I have the time) I'll do a dts transfer

Hello,

Ok, I'm back on the Gold cart with standard #'s, to get the good mix with the best high end. Yowsah!

Great album, a 70's soul classic.

I had a DTS conversion made of my quite-used white-shell UA cart.
Unfortunately, the sound quality is appalling.
Anyone have a gold cart conversion? Trade ya.

And, ferchrissake, if anyone knows ANYTHING AT ALL about the supposed QR of this or Deliver the Word, PLEASE SPEAK UP!

My white cart sounds great.

But then I never had a gold one to which to compare it.

For the guys that has never seen a UA gold cart, here's one:

And now a question...
i do have this same UA gold cart (SB vol.1) but mine has a Dolby logo too on front and Dolby blubr on back; to add weirdness, SB vol. 2 (gold cart) has no Dolby logo.
Two different edition, with the same catalogue numbers?
BTW, i've nver spotted a SB vol.2 cart (any color) with the Dolby logo.

I take that back. My BLACK cart sounds great.

 I don't have a white cart. Maybe the white ones DO sound crappy.

What is meant by QR here? Far as I know the farthest the QR of this and the other War title got was an announcement, and UA never made the tapes.

Is someone claiming to have one?

I don't know of any UA quad reels.
