I know this one is probably been around for a long time here but I just saw this at http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/n...Feed:+superdeluxeedition+(Superdeluxeedition) . It will come in 4 versions, if I am reading this correctly.

The description reads as follows:

‘MACHINE HEAD’ DELUXE EDITION (Box)

This 4 ‘purple’ CD+DVD deluxe edition will be accompanied with fully illustrated 64 page hardback booklet, housed in a luxury box.

CONTENTS INCLUDE:

• CD1: ‘MACHINE HEAD’ ORIGINAL ALBUM NEW 2012 REMASTER. Featuring non-album b-side, ‘When A Blind Man Cries’.

• CD2: 1997 REMIX BY DEEP PURPLE’S BASSIST ROGER GLOVER. Remixed from the original multi-tracks, this unique version reveals many subtleties and nuances from the original recordings, heard afresh.

• CD3: ORIGINAL ALBUM QUAD SQ STEREO (2012 REMASTER) Includes; the Quad SQ as stereo, in its undecoded form, it often varies considerably from the original stereo mix of the album; ‘Maybe I’m A Leo’ and ‘Lazy’ contain alternate guitar solos to the original album mix. Plus two single edits: ‘Smoke On The Water’ (an edit created to be the fourth single in the US from Machine Head, coupled with a live version from Made In Japan. It went on to be the band’s biggest selling single ever) and ’Lazy’ Japanese b-side.
(Engineered by Martin Birch Aquand SQ Stereo mixed at Abbey Road Studios, March 1972 and remastered at Abbey Road Studios, March 2012 by Peter Mew)

• CD4: IN CONCERT ’72 (2012 MIX) (RECORDED LIVE AT PARIS THEATRE, LONDON 9TH MARCH 1972)

I look forward to this release

...smoke on the water was ..."the fourth single in the US from Machine Head".......??

it was strange enough that "Never before" was the first single from the lp., but what else came out other than smoke on the water as a single from that lp in the Usa

I do agree that this has been a bit over done. and I do already own the DVD-A of this recording. Does anyone know if the DVD-A of this the same as the original Quad mix from the SQ release?

It'll probably be the UK mix, which was on the SQ LP and the SACD

If there was not so much Quality stiff comming out i would have jumped at this but ...
Just tired of this album, right release at the wrong time for me

If this box is $50 or less, I'll get it.
I haven't bought this album in any format, although there have been a few times I almost pulled the trigger on the Japan SACD.

Is the UK Quad mix that much better than the Warner 5.1 mix?
9.28 to 8.11 is a pretty big difference on this forum.

Man. they should have released the SQ version on VINYL!!!!
Sounds interesting...if it's reasonably priced (and I get a job soon), I'll get it....DTS 96/24 is a step up from SACD.... IMO

I think I'm in the minority of one that prefers the DVDA.

the mix on the DVDA has a wider spread sound, with better/more natural instrument placement, especially in the surround channels, the quad is a bit too rear-heavy.

also, the fidelity from the multitracks on the DVDA bests the sound quality of the vintage quad on the SACD, although the SACD is no sonic slouch, it's just a bit grainier and noisier than the DVDA, which has a lovely top-end sparkle the SACD lacks.

all just imo, of course.. and like I say I don't think (m)any out there agree with me..!?

I'll up the minority to two and agree with you Fred. Just listen to the attack of the snare drum on Highway Star or Smoke on the Water if you want to hear how the DVD-A is better than the quad SACD.

phew! thank you for chipping in, boxhead! with you all the way.. confirms I can't be (totally) nuts after all..! ;)

one other thing about SotW is the main riff (duh duh duh.. duh duh duuh-uhh.. duh duh duh.. duh duh!) which is (very naturally, for me) spread across the front on the DVDA mix.. its conversely hard panned in the rear on the SACD/quad.. and although I love wildly discrete mixes, in this instance I much prefer the steering & channel choices of the new 5.1 mix, it just works a lot better with the music. plus there's greater clarity & more presence and space around these notes in particular on the DVDA - let's face it, for many this is the main event of the LP, so the best presentation of SotW helps give the DVDA the edge.

also.. I don't know if the original SQ vinyl suffered the same fate but I generally find the bass on the SACD to be a bit overblown. the DVDA is a touch leaner but much cleaner - to my lugholes at any rate!

is there a possibility there was some over-zealous EQ-futzing in the transfer at Abbey Rd from the quad tapes to DSD/SACD..?!?

I prefer the SQ mix, it's a "wilder" mix( I LOVE rear heavy mixes) than the DVD-A one, and besides , it features Jon (RIP) and Ritchie on their own separate channels, I LOVE the separation...
