That’s excellent news! :LB

All those soundtracks were literally made to be heard in surround!

Damn only just got this a month ago!

They did the ET SACD in multichannel but it’s pretty astronomical, so not sure how it sounds?

Mr. Smithers, I have the ET mch SACD and as I recall it's mostly ambience in the rears. Will have to play it again to refresh my memory. I also have the Classic Records DVD~A 192/24 Stereo of the Original Soundtrack recording of Close Encounters of the Third Kind and it's simply amazing [should try playing it through my pre/pro's SUPER mode for some faux surround].

I don't know if the new John Williams @ The Movies will be discrete but I do know one thing.......Reference Recordings are astoundingly well recorded and as you said....the price is right. I'm getting mine this week from ImportCD and it was $13 and change.

I don't know if you like classical music but you cannot go wrong with this wonderful DISCRETE BD~A of Mahler's 8th Symphony [GREAT PRICE, BTW]: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mahler-Sym...5953&creativeASIN=B004P4I4OQ&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

And this one is likewise EXCELLENT [though not as discrete]: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Copland-Le..._rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=BQRPTKFKRR7H6NXQ3NQ0

Looks like fun, although you lose something in band arrangements for some of this stuff. Still in for one, of course.

I believe the Dallas Winds who have created some superb recordings in the past will do justice to William's music and as stated, this is the first RR SACD featuring that illustrious orchestra. I wonder, if like BIS on occasion, Professor Johnson will utilize discrete elements in this particular recording rather than ambience.

Should have my copy by either tomorrow or Saturday. Will report.

Gave a quick spin and pleased to report I really like it. They're eating some good food down in Dallas! It is mostly ambience in the rears but gives a much better feel then my stereo only John Williams 'Movies' mentioned earlier. Fidelity is top notch. I'd prefer if they could find the originals from the films and release that in surround but this is great. My favourite so far is track 5 from 'Lincoln'...

Watched an excellent HBO documentary on Steven Spielberg recently and he goes at great length to say how/why he always uses John Williams for his films...

Cheers for the links Ralph, just ordered those too. Crikey I'll have to start working the streets soon! Thankfully priced right like you say.

Copeland in surround - Yeeeee Haw!

The Mahler is discrete but the Copeland is mostly ambient. But Copeland's music is luscious so grin and bear!

As far as working the streets, Mr. Smithers, if you need some 'tips,' I'm certain there's an app for that!o_O

BTW, I DVRed the HBO Spielberg doc but haven't as yet watched it.

This is a stunning album. Very well recorded with a great sense of depth and there seem to be discrete elements in the rears although they're mostly used to extend the sound field. Be very careful with your sound levels as the bass drums can be quite loud in parts. A "10" when the poll comes up.

One listen this morning. Sound quality is very good. Cymbal crashes are very lifelike, sub woofer might be a little loud at times, but easy enough to turn down, and very good dynamic range. Brass has great tonality. Volume is very scalable, no problems or fatigue in raising the volume to fill the room with the music. John Williams compositions are vast, and since this is a movie theme I wonder if there is a television themed album that could be given the same treatment? I know he wrote the music to "Lost in Space" but I wonder if there are others...
