Exclusive: Prog supergroup features members of Frost*, Maschine and Shadows Of The Sun
Rob Reed has released a teaser video introducing his new project Kiama.

The band features Magenta mainman Reed, as well as Andy Edwards from Frost*, Luke Machin of Maschine and The Tangent and Dylan Thompson from Shadow Of The Sun.

Kiama's debut album Sign Of IV will be released in January next year via Tigermoth Records and a teaser video featuring the track Cold Black Heart can be viewed below.

Reed tells Prog: “We drew from musical references from the early 70s who were primarily thought of as rock bands – but to me were responsible for some of the greatest prog epics.

"Led Zeppelin’s Kashmir and Stairway To Heaven, Rainbow’s Stargazer and Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody were the order of the day. It was all about the melody, groove and the songs, not musical widdle."

The band are offering fans the chance to join the Kiama Club, which will provide early access to new material and exclusive rights to buy special three disc set of the album, complete with two CDs and a DVD featuring videos and 5.1 mixes. Visit www.kiamaband.com for more details.

Pretty sure this is going to be "The Dogs." :)

We all know Rob from his incredible 5.1 mixes of Magenta, Kompendium and Sanctuary, but if you don't know some of the other guys Dylan is a superb vocalist/guitarist who played with The Reasoning for a couple of years before moving on to Shadow of the Sun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIo_ypNZwUU and Luke Machin is quite simply the most exciting guitarist I've seen in the past twenty years or so. He reminds me very much of a young Steve Hillage (no bullshit.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ed7dzQvZkEE

Can't wait to hear what they produce together.

I got the Shadow Of The Sun CD when it was released, there is some real nifty guitar on it, https://www.facebook.com/shadowofthesunband/. The CD is still available only £8 from http://themerchdesk.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=136_83&product_id=242

So I'm looking forward to Kiama, quite some supergroup.

So have I got this right, you can only get the 5.1 in one of the sets available on the fan club?

Yes, on the Limited Edition 2CD/DVD set + club membership for £15, or the one with the T-shirt for a few quid more. Currently only available via their website.

Thank you Duncan :)

(This is not a moan, it's just, well, ok, it kind of is.. while I understand selling it in such a way may achieve several things.. slightly higher margins not selling & distributing thru 3rd parties, securing pre-orders they know at least roughly how many of each config to press up for the first batch, they've got some extra working capital up front to manufacture the stuff.. some risks are lessened I guess.. but, they risk losing sales thru the lack of distribution and availability elsewhere.. and, to be frank, on a personal note I do not like to tie up any of my limited record buying budget in pre-orders if I can at all help it, I prefer to be spontaneous with my record buying, it's how I've always done it, it makes it more fun and it frees up my pocket money so I can choose when and how to spend rather than be committed to something months in advance. Just my twopennuth.

Oh Neil you tease..! :p

I might just have to "invest" £15.99 of my hard earned in this glorified kickstarter fan klub kampaign.. at least i can say when asked if I've heard Kiama; "Yeah! I've been there and got the t-shirt.." :ugham:

LOL - go on, you know you want to! ;)

Seriously, I can understand your "This is not a moan..." comments but I honestly think they're more applicable to releases that are likely to easily push tens of thousands plus sales. Artists like Rob and the other guys in Kiama have to find ways to make margins at a very tight end of the market and support through campaigns like this make a lot of difference.

I tried the Contact Us button on the Kiama website and asked about DVD-Audio. I got this response:

Not sure at this moment, its down to room on the DVD…we have video content, so we have to balance it…. at a minimum it should be DTS…
Fingers crossed we can squeeze DVD audio on there.``

Kiama have just released a full length promo video for one of the tracks, "Slip Away"

The guitar solo shows just how good a guitarist Luke Machin is. Awesome.
