Has anyone heard this Steven Vidaic SACD? It is a fairly recent 2012 release, and has a multichannel layer. It was recorded direct to DSD, which should make for a nice sounding SACD.

I discovered it on sa-cd.net while browsing direct to DSD recordings. There is one favorable review there:

http://www.sa-cd.net/showtitle/8370

And, I see it is available for purchase on bandcamp:

http://stevenvidaic.bandcamp.com/

I wish I could listen to more tracks on bandcamp. The one that is available to hear is good if you like a folk-rock style.

Thoughts?

Haven't heard it. But a live to Sonoma DSD recording. Hmm, worth considering !

Yeah, it has the potential to be very good sounding. From bandcamp:

This album was recorded live, in a room, to DSD on a Sonoma recording system with very little isolation, overdubbing, editing, or processing.

This is a little confusing:

This disc contains 3 layers; SACD/DSD Surround 5.1 mixes, SACD/DSD Stereo mixes, PCM (CD quality) Stereo mixes. The DSD layers are DSD pure and have never been digitized.

DSD is digital, no? I suspect what he means is that the DSD has never been converted to PCM. Whatever... it is not that PCM is inferior (quite the opposite, I believe), but conversions to/from DSD and PCM are best avoided I expect.

Steve Vidaic is a musician, studio owner, producer, and recording engineer, according to his bio:

Steven Vidaic is an American musician, songwriter, and producer. He owns Immersive Records and Studios in Boulder, CO. He currently performs and records with Citizen Cope, Goodbye Champion and as a solo artist. In addition, he produces records for a wide variety of artists. Steven was awarded a Grammy in 2010 for his contributions as a Recording Engineer and an Emmy in 2012 as a composer.

Thanks for the posting.
I ordered the disc. It arrived a couple days ago. Very enjoyable!
Recorded direct to DSD in surround.

Great. How would you describe the music on the disc ?

I hate to label any music. This is adult oriented rock. Singer, electric guitar, drums, bass, some piano, some organ.
Mostly mid tempo. Enough variety to keep the entire disc interesting. Occasionally a bit dark(cut #6).
It is in my keeper pile.

The review at SA-CD.net indicates it is immersive surround: "Great use of surround, the whole band is all around and your right in the middle of them." And I'd say about half the mp3 samples on Amazon are interesting to me. I like the title song a lot, but I'm not sure I want to take a $25 chance on the rest.

Thanks folks, I'd been wondering about buying this for ages, should have thought about Bandcamp! So I've just taken a punt and ordered it, an extra $15 for P&P to the UK though - but it sounds interesting having listened to the mp3s.

We're about to see more people sampling the Steve Vidiac album. It just landed on the Super HiRez site - available as a Stereo DSD or PCM download for $24.98
The site has an extensive write-up on the album noting that it was recorded Direct to a 32 Track Sonoma DSD Workstation, which his label calls "Pure 32"

Interestingly, the album was previously available as a Stereo DSD Download over on the Downloads Now web site - at a much higher price - $40.00

And, there is the Hybrid Multichannel SACD edition you can also pick up from the artist's Bandcamp web site for $25

So no 5.1 DSD or FLAC download? So the only way to get the 5.1 is via the SACD right?

My copy of the Hearts Look Twice album by Steven Vidaic arrived on Friday on Hybrid Multichannel SACD disc.

I agree with QQ Member noffour and the review on www.sa-cd.net. The album features adult oriented rock with a variety of songs, all written by Vidaic.

The Surround Mix, by the artist and Immersive Studios engineer Mike Yach, uses all of your speakers and often starts a song with instruments in one of the surround channels.
If you like the music (check the MP3 samples on the artist's web site or Amazon), you'll enjoy this one in SACD Surround Sound.

The album was recorded in DSD Pure and is available as a Stereo DSD and a Stereo FLAC download via the Acoustic Sounds Super HiRez web site. They are not offering Multichannel downloads yet.
