Wow, yet again, we don't even have "Sides" out quite yet, and already, there's a preliminary amazon listing for yet another Anthony Phillips CD/DVD deluxe edition, this time for his album "1984", which was released in 1981…
There's not a lot of info yet, but do I think this one will also contain a surround mix? Oh, you betcha! :)

You would have to guess that they're selling well (y)

Wonderful  - I listened to this on cassette for the first time in years about a month ago!

This series really does continue to surprise me in such pleasant ways!
I never would have imagined after "The Geese & The Ghost" that they not only would continue the series but that things would be moving at such a brisk pace! Other reissues series and labels should really take note… ;)

Crap, I'm really getting behind on surround releases. I kept putting The Geese and the Ghost off, and now I've got two more to catch up on!

The really great thing is that Cherry Red/Esoteric do a lot, and I mean a huge amount of these kind of re-issues; just take a look at their catalogue listings to see how many they already have on their books. If they're now finding it commercially viable we could see many more from them. Let's hope so!

Interesting that the pre release description for this now says:

This new 3 disc digipack deluxe edition of the album features a new stereo mix and a 5.1 Surround sound mix, (on an NSTC / Region Free DVD), along with a CD of alternate mixes and out-takes. It includes a lavishly illustrated booklet that fully restores the original album artwork and features a new essay by Jon Dann (with a brief foreword text by Steven Wilson) and also includes a poster.

I wonder then if this is a clue towards who did the 5.1 mix on this one? Not that there's anything wrong with the surround mix on the 3 issued so far, on the contrary, they are all superb.

Interesting.. how much the poorer would our little surround lives be without that fella the last few years.. I marvel at the 5.1 pies he's got his fingers in these days.. without doubt THE go to guy for all that remixing and surround stuff now.. sometimes I play one of his new mixes and think "I hope sensei Scheiner gets to hear this".. I imagine he would be proud.

Maybe so - in another paragraph, they say this...another SW reference... :)
At the time of release, the album divided opinions among some fans but the passage of time has seen the album re-evaluated and it is now held in high esteem by fans, critics and musicians (including Steven Wilson), all of whom concur that 1984 now stands as a ground-breaking and influential work.

Here's a look at the packshot for this release:

As you can see from the picture, this time it's a digipack style release as opposed to the 'box' style releases of past.
Really looking forward to this one! As I understand it, it's VERY different compared to the Anthony Phillips albums that came before it. :)

More 'electronic' than the others, looking forward to it, I've only got it on prerecorded cassette, so it'll nice to hear on a better medium and in surround.
