"He is Dutton! Hear Him Roar!!" 🥳🛒

It's time to play "Spot The Lyrical Reference!"

"My name is Betty. He favorite group was..."

Go!

warts and all i'll always love the Quad of TTWOTW but it will probably still divide the crowd, not least because its so different from the hit mixes.. out of the two "Spirit" should go down better round here, its fabulous.. but the Harold Melvin and O'Jays Quads are the real ones that will wow everyone i think/hope (!) particularly "Black & Blue" which is one of those Quads that just like "Ship Ahoy" pulls every trick in the mixing book but doesn't feel at all gimmicky. unless by some catastrophe DV fuck it up, that'll be an instant "10" for me.

Holy hell. Perhaps I am biased by my love for both 70's soul music and the Philadelphia International quad mixes, but this is without a doubt the greatest batch from D-V yet. Survival, Family Reunion, and Wake Up Everybody discrete for the first time! Spirit and That's The Way Of The Would on the same disc! Love Crazy - one of CBS' very last quad releases from 1977, for which the Q8 is so rare it's hard to even find a picture of it online- is now available from the quad master tapes for roughly $15 USD! Are you kidding me??? Mr. Dutton is spoiling us rotten.

I love all of these titles, but if there's one that stands out above the pack it's Black & Blue. I've heard a lot of '70s quad mixes and I honestly think this is one of the best ever done. Like @fredblue said - there's all kinds of panning and swirling and channel-hopping, but it's never gimmicky and totally fits the material. "Is There A Place For Me" blows my mind every time I hear it.
