60 years ago - Nov 16, 1959 - a play opened at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater in NYC.
The story of the Trapp family was first told on film in a 1956 German film staring Ruth Leuwerik as Maria.
Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse adapted Maria Augusta Trapp's book "The Trapp Family Singers" for the stage, with R&H providing the music. Mary Martin starred as Maria, her co-star was Theodore Bikel. Also in the cast was a young Joey Heatherton in one of only 2 Broadway shows in which she was to appear. In 1965 it was adapted into one of the most popular musical films of all time - Tonight
at 8pm (Broadway time) we surround you with - The Sound of Music.

Here's what we did - we've taken the Q8 tape, and encoded it for QS - this is one of the few conversions we've done where it is not really successful in 2 channel playback. All the vocals are in the front - but with no reverb. all of that is in the rear. While this gives a very nice quad playback - in straight 2 channel play, the mix has too much reverb. But judge for yourself, let us know!

And, as a bonus - to fill out the our it's side one of Aquarius & other Musical Hits . Leon Grand's 1972 SQ demo LP on Vanguard!
