I recommend these two titles for being rather obscure in surround. The music is great for its genre. There was two “Classical Egyptian Cabaret” Belly Dance music records released around 1974 in SQ Quadraphonic by a small label. The two titles are both marked as being “Quadrophonic.”

The title of the records that we know are Quad: “Cairo by Night” and “This Is Orient.” “This Is Orient” was also rereleased as “Shik Shak Shok” with the same record cover. I was also able to find both titles as MP3 downloads on Amazon. Both of these records are fairly well known in the belly dance community, and have been used for decades in live dance performances.

If you look at the top right of the back corner, you can see the Quad identification:

I have long wanted to do something similar; but life, time etc... unfortunately nothing here is in surround. When I think of a great surround album that possibly falls in, I think of the Buena Vista Social Club DVDA, but have a limited knowledge of Cuban music so...

Australia (non-Indigenous) - Paul Kelly, Gossip Gossip

Australia (Indigenous) - Frank Yamma, Playing With Fire

New Zealand (non-Indigenous) - Crowded House, Together Alone

Malta - Etnika, Zifna

Papua New Guinea - Telek; Celebration of a Legend (or one of the more modern albums referred to in this album?)

Good luck in your musical travels! I can only imagine the beauty, curiosities and experiences that await =)

A rock band with a decidedly Irish sound. I'm a huge fan and have caught them live half a dozen times. They have played frequently in the US, mainly NYC, Boston and Chicago. Boys from the old sod.

#1 in Ireland for several weeks, one of 18 top 30 singles there. All about a road.

My mom went on a tour of Iceland years ago and brought back this CD for me:

My version had all the songs as instrumental versions which I personally enjoyed more. Whether it’s the best Iceland has to offer (in terms of traditional music) I couldn’t tell you.

And while it’s more commercial, I’ve been loving The Hu from Mongolia, mixing traditional music with metal.

One more... from South Korea. A friend of mine knows Soyou and has sent me some of her music from time to time including this EP:

It’s probably not something I would have ever discovered on my own, but as I’ve listened to a lot of her music over the past couple of years, I appreciate her range of styles.

I have posted this one many times , and although it's not Japanese music per se, it is from a Japanese artist who has a YT channel and releases new recordings regularly. As I have mentioned, this SACD may have played a crucial role in my survival back in 2011 when I was the victim of a botched laminectomy on L4-L5 which pierced my Spinal Sac and left me losing Spinal Fluid for about 3 weeks (People DIE from that after a few days, usually from Meningitis) cause I played this VERY LOUDLY EVERY DAY during those 3 weeks ...

Here is Jun Makino's YT channel

Singapore Songstress Aisyah Aziz in remarkable contemporary performances on the audiophile Groove Note label [Stereo SACD]. Reminiscent of Jacintha! HIGHLY recommended

Everyone should check out Putumayo to check out musicians from around the globe in different genres; both traditional and their take on a style.
