"I plugged the unit in and the red light did not light up" at least the guy is being fairly honest, but that's not a good start (perhaps he should have advertised it as Dead Old Stock).

Yes you're right. This is the case for any vintage hardware whether it be so called new or used there is an element of it not working so you have to way up, is it worth the extra cost of restoring the unit and remember there is no new technology today available to replace them with. That is the other side to think of.

I assumed he meant the power lamp which is obviously red in the photos, not sure what colour the radar lamp is (but since he said he had no means of testing CD4 don't think he was referring to that anyway).

The power switch light is red & the 30 Hz. radar light is purple.....

And the guy said that he had no way to test it, but if the unit was brand new there would have been a 7 inch CD-4 setup disk in the sealed box.
