I love Joan! This may not be the greatest Quad mix or selection of tracks, as Ed mentioned. I have an SQ & Q8 of this. Dixie, Fortune and Four-Letter Word are the best tracks here. Four-Letter Word is one of the most overlooked Baez tracks and a killer Dylan composition that didn't make it to one of his own albums. The tracks from Joan are arranged by Professor Peter Schickele (PDQ Bach).

Just noticed a weird thing about this title in the Mark Anderson discography:

Hits/Greatest & Others. Vanguard VSQ-40032 (SQ), King 4D-7 (CD4) [Japan],
Vanguard QILBT 7 (CD4) [Japan]

The 4D-7 is titled "Greatest hits" and feature the same cover photo but a different track list from the USA SQ/Q8 (don't have it handy but can dig for it, one thing for sure: doesn't have "Love is just a 4LW"). Photo for it here (don't mind the price tag...) and it has been pressed also by the Taiwanese from the Japan stampers:

What *is* the QILBT 7 release?????????? And does it mirror the USA tracklist or is a repress of the Japan tracklist?

Changed PC, fired up HD, here's the label scans for the taiwan pressing of the Greatest Hits CD4 from the 4D7 stampers.

baez_cd4.jpg

Side 1 replaces two songs, resequence and become this:

1. The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down
2. Let It Be
3. Blessed Are...
4. Salt of the earth (new)
5. Angeline (new)
6. Help Me Make It Through The Night

out: Dangling Conversation / Eleanor Rigby
All songs from "Blessed are..."

Side 2 is totally redone, none of the 5 tracks of the USA release is present:

1. Green green grass of home (out: There But For Fortune)
2. Will the circle be unbroken (out: The Brand New Tennessee Waltz)
3. Poor wayfaring stranger (out: I Pity The Poor Immigrant)
4. Just a closer walk (out: Love Is Just A Four-Letter Word)
5. Last lonely and wretched (out: Heaven Help Us All)

Songs 1 to 4 are from "David's album", 5 is from "Blessed are..."

SQ/Q8?

OMG! QR too!!!!!!!!!!
Never seen that before. That's a real find.

There are live Baez CD's on Sony that have different tracks, depending on the country of origin. Vinyl has yet a different track lineup with substitutions.

Greatest Hits often have different tracks in different countries. Eurythmics Greatest is different in England vs. US, as is McCartney's All the Best. Boz Scaggs Hits is different in Japan vs US. Covers are the same.

Very true...Bob Dylan's GH from '67 had a UK and US pressing. I think the UK came first, and it's comprehensive enough. The big diff, though, is that the US album had "Positively 4th Street" and the UK did not. I'm guessing why was because Columbia mixed that hit to stereo for the first time for their comp, and it was not available in stereo for the UK.

ED :)
