New Film Project
We are proud to announce an exciting new collaboration between The Beatles and the acclaimed Academy Award winning director Sir Peter Jackson

The new film will be based around 55 hours of never-released footage of The Beatles in the studio, shot between January 2nd and January 31st, 1969. These studio sessions produced The Beatles’ Grammy Award winning album Let It Be, with its Academy Award winning title song. The album was eventually released 18 months later in May 1970, several months after the band had broken up.

The filming was originally intended for a planned TV special, but organically turned into something completely different, climaxing with The Beatles’ legendary performance on the roof of Apple's Savile Row London office — which took place exactly 50 years ago today.

Peter Jackson said, "The 55 hours of never-before-seen footage and 140 hours of audio made available to us, ensures this movie will be the ultimate ‘fly on the wall’ experience that Beatles fans have long dreamt about."

“I was relieved to discover the reality is very different to the myth,” continues Jackson, “it’s simply an amazing historical treasure-trove. Sure, there’s moments of drama - but none of the discord this project has long been associated with. Watching John, Paul, George, and Ringo work together, creating now-classic songs from scratch, is not only fascinating - it’s funny, uplifting and surprisingly intimate”.

"I’m thrilled and honoured to have been entrusted with this remarkable footage - making the movie will be a sheer joy.”

Although this has nothing to do with the topic...I thought I would put it here as it's Beatles related and not worth an entire thread...our friends in the UK are aware of this but....us YANKS...I'm not sure...and any mention of the Beatles and PORN should be noteworthy to some part of our forum population....I'm not here to "judge" which topic holds the most interesto_O....but HERE you go

What really sucks about all of these releases is that they should have come out 30 years ago. Many many many people who would have loved to see and hear these things are no longer here, and there are a ton of people out there today that have no interest whatsoever in releases of 50 year old stuff.

That being said, I'm in. I too have that old MVI LaserDisc, but I am sure it's rotted by now. I copied it to DVD many years ago, but haven't watched it in years.

Wonder if we'll get the LET IT BE surround next year (ABBEY ROAD better be this year!).

It's sad that we(music lovers)have to sit around and wait for these anniversary dates...pretty stupid really...why does a record company need an "excuse" to issue music...especially when you are talking about some of the music that is 50+ years old...I just saw something that provoked some thought....when is the cut off date for the "infamous" anniversary release...they are doing birthday dates for 100 years...Nat King Cole is getting a Centennial Release here...it's true that some bands have fan bases that span the generations...but most of the fans that really appreciated these releases will be gone...I guess it hits home to me that members on here that are no longer with us would have marveled at these releases...but they never got the chance...due to this antiquated ritual used by the record companies...think of all the releases that might have been marketed in the days when DVD-A was the new big thing if it wasn't for this contrived policy....what a crazy and frustrating business model...and here we are...sitting around waiting...and waiting...and waiting...

True, Cinty, but a lot of the 'acts' in question, are still touring and releasing new material and really don't want to revisit their older material ..... in the case of Let It Be, McCartney is on record saying it was a painful reminder of the end of the Beatles...and he was in no rush to see it's re~release.

Thankfully, we've lived through the highs and lows of musical renaissances and will soon experience the abolition of physical discs altogether and it is imperative to release as many masters, QUAD and otherwise, before they perish altogether.

But until the artists, themselves, come on board and/or their labels are amenable to re~releasing them, I'm afraid the obligatory ANNIVERSARY Re~release is the most we can rightfully hope for.

If they could JUST dispense with the Box Sets and release the albums themselves in pristine remasters [sans brick walling], I'd be a happier camper.

There's some Beatles trivia that I never knew! And now I can never unknow it........

It seems like some kind of LP Rorshach Test. I see a butterfly.

I have only seen the original movie once in a theater 1st run. Most happy for any n all quality reissues.

The only time I saw it in a theater was on a double-bill with "Ned Kelly". I can sort of understand the thinking given who played Ned, but thematically it was a bit odd.

Somewhere around here I should still have hum-filled reel that I made off a 16mm print.

I hope they very much do NOT spend that much time in the film playing each song in its entirety. That can be some sort of bonus feature. Or a new album release. But stopping a documentary for an entire album's worth of songs would not flow well.

^^^ This. It's a documentary. Not a concert film or music video. They only should play enough of each song as what is needed to service the story being told.
