I was surprised that Ed created poll threads for all of the Carpenters quad releases other than this one, so here you go.
I was slogging through one of my hard drives today and found the raw reel as-recorded files I had from the playback of the quad reel of this album. I dusted them off, ran them through Wave Purity and promptly listened for the first time in many years. All I can say is................WOW.
I wonder why Marshall never did this one for AF. It would have been a natural. I have the playback going while I am typing and this thing is 100% pure discrete pin-point surround and it sounds incredible.
I know we're not supposed to take '10's too lightly, but this mix is a sure 10. I know Bob and others did conversions of these files so they're out there, and I suggest that if you like this sort of stuff you seek them out. You will not be disappointed.
When I was a "youth", I really didn't pay much attention to The Carpenters. To me they were "easy listening", but today at my advanced age I can clearly appreciate what an incredible voice Karen had, and the terrific arrangements and surround mix on this particular tape.
For you wav file freaks, here's the entire album....
