This Friday, April 22, 2022, is the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of the true geniuses of modern music, bassist/composer/bandleader Charles Mingus. The only thing Rhino seems to be doing to mark the occasion is an expanded re-release of a solid (albeit minor) album from 1957, Mingus Three. Nothing happening with his many classic records for Atlantic. As for the other major labels that Mingus appeared on over the course of his career (Columbia, Impulse!): bupkis. This is shameful.
Would it be crazy to expect the announcement of a major retrospective box set, or maybe hi-res remasters released to the streaming services as part of a "featured artist" spotlight? How about giving Amazon, Apple, and Tidal the cleaned-up quad version of Mingus Moves? (Or, UMG: how about adding all of Mingus's Impulse! catalog to your Atmos remix program?) Come on!
