This was one of my "only bought it because it was in surround" discs - not even sure entirely what to rate this one, as while the sonics are great, it's your typical band in front/crowd in the rears affair, so I've gone for a 7.

Does anyone know what kind of master tape this was derived from? Is it a three-channel one with the band in stereo and the crowd in mono? I remember when all these SACDs (studio and live albums) came out thinking "this is the one they decided to do in 5.1?"

Yep, I'm going "7" too—certainly sounds great overall, would only add that yeah, Sam's voice nicely positioned in the center channel sounds great and has the vibe of some of those other three-channel mixes with the additional ambience in the rears (I'm hearing some horns fairly prominently back there too at times - maybe not discretely so, but it sounds great).
