I have a 5.1 setup with Dynaudio AIR speakers. The speakers will take three Stereo AES inputs to reproduce the six channels, but can't decode any surround format. What is an easy way to decode (hopefully all surround formats) and output to 3 AES outputs. DTS CAD5 would be perfect, except it won't do anything Dolby related....

Here is what you need:

I am thinking of getting one myself for my Meridian processor to get transcoded DSD digitally. From what I understand, anything that comes off of the player will be output via these outputs, like DD and DTS as well as SACD and DVD-Audio. I also think it should be possible to record the 3 spdif streams into multichannel wav files using a Lynx card like http://www.lynxstudio.com/aes16.html.

As it is a Dolby product, no DTS. But your CAD5 will do that.

It is an 7.1 unit, but you can shut off the two sides until you are ready for them.

You also get a Dolby Headphone encoder with it!

The only one I have found is a Tact that does all the formats but it is 10k and doesn't have analog inputs. I am afraid that no matter what I come up with now, I will be forced to send/convert analog when Dolby True HD and DTS HD become the standards because of copy protection. Or am I wrong?

Asked an acquaintance at Dolby.

Dolby will allow it.

Doesn't mean the content providers will.
