In relation to Dan Hartman, I'm pretty certain that it was his version of the Gene Pitney hit, "It Hurts To Be In Love" that featured an excellent film clip set in a stereotypical American diner and featured the less than hygienic activities of the kitchen staff. I would think it was from the early '80s but have never found a copy on line or DVD for sale. Any pointers?

Thanks for mentioning this cover by Dan, it was fun to listen to it again. As for the video, maybe you were remembering this version of "It Hurts To Be In Love" by the band Durocs?
