While most of the reporting from CES 2014 this week has focused on TV, Video and Gadgets, Sound & Vision has posted three articles by Ken C. Pohlmann on the High Resolution Audio panels that were promoted before CES started. Check these links for a look:

Multichannel music came in for some discussion in the Hi-Res Music, Part Two panel. Pohlmann's article (linked above) notes "Multichannel is still a tough sell; will pushing it help or hinder the broader hi-res effort?"

Interestingly, the new NativeDSD.Com web site that features both Multichannel and Stereo DSD Downloads of almost every one of the over 160 albums posted makes a point of this by bolding the word Multichannel on their intro page with these comments:

Native DSD Music was founded in 2013 and started developing this website in the fall of the same year. We are striding to provide computer audio listeners a focused resource for native DSD recorded stereo and multichannel studio masters, directly from those labels recording in DSD. We offer a centralized shopping experience for native DSD recorded Edit Master files, both stereo and multichannel, along with information and discussion of both software and hardware (coming soon), extensive site-wide search capability through the use of ID3v2 compliant Metadata across all labels. This site will continue to grow along with the development of DSD.

"As a professional musician, when I became a classical music label owner, it was my passion to not only bring great music to my customers, but also to bring the emotion of that music’s creation. I found that DSD recording best met that need, and it is why I started this website." - C. J. Sacks

We are growing! As of January 2, 2014, 7 other labels (in addition to Channel Classics and Channel of China) have chosen to offer their DSD Edit Masters on this website."

We will see if Blue Coast and Super HiRez carry though on their earlier comments that Multichannel music downloads will be coming to their sites as 2014 unfolds.
It promises to be an interesting year for High Resolution Audio and Multichannel Music.

It's impossible to make everyone happy with every surround delivery system at this point. Be it DSD, FLAC, WAV, SACD, DVD-V, DTS, DD, DVD-A, BLURAY, whatever. Just do it and we can pretty much make whatever we want out of it once we get it in our hands! :)

Ah, the Nike approach (Just Do It!)... :)

What I've heard so far on my system, listening to Multichannel DSD Downloads from David Elias and several from Channel Classics has been excellent.

So I'm with you. Bring more Multichannel Downloads to market and I'll definitely be picking some up to feed my Oppo and exaSound! And that (buying some Multichannel Downloads) will help stimulate the market so the record labels and download sites post more.
